Stripsteak Dominates Bank of America Evergreen Challenge Championship

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALB—AUGUST 23, 2019—Multiple stakes winner Stripsteak broke on top under jockey Ricardo Moreno then widened his lead to 1 ¼ lengths while defeated JD Wagon Boss in the $39,433(US) Bank of America Evergreen Challenge Championship Friday night at Evergreen Park.

The 4-year-old son of multiple stakes sire One Sweet Jess covered the 440 yard course in :21.936 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index into a 15 mph crosswind.

William H. Leech saddled Stripsteak to his 10th career win, from 16th starts, for owner Charles G. Stojan. The $23,964(US) winners' purse boosted the bay geldings earnings total to $66,619. Steve D. Burns bred Stripsteak in California from the Separatist mare Ruths Chris.

The win also includes an invite to the $250,000-est. Bank of America Challenge Championship(G1) on October 26th at The Downs at Albuquerque.

Also a multiple stakes winner, JD Wagon Boss picked up $9,683(US) for finishing second. Buckey Stockwell owns-and-trains the Oklahoma bred son of leading sire Pyc Paint Your Wagon. Second in the AQHA Juvenile Challenge Championship(G2) at 2, JD Wagon Boss has earned $72,295. Jean Dillard bred the 4-year-old from the Fishers Dash mare Elly Mae. Jose Rocha was up.

Gone To Be Bright, a 4 Gone To The Mountain 4-year-old, finished third 2-¼ lengths back. Also trained by Leech, the black colt races for the Gonetothebrightside Syndicate. J.B. Botello was aboard. Jack and Deborah Williams bred Gone To Be Bright in Alberta from the Dj Bright Tarbaby by Dj Birght Déjà Vu.

Walters Cartel finished fourth. Goody Kiddy was scratched.
