Apollitical Mogul Tops Qualifiers to Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge

ALTOONA, IA—AUGUST 30, 2019—Two trials determined the field for the $35,000-added Adequan Prairie Meadows Derby Challenge on Friday night, and the top two finishers from the $78,050 Canterbury Derby in July will rematch as the first and second qualifiers to the Derby Challenge in Prairie Meadows.

Fastest qualifier Apollitical Mogul won the second trial by a length with a time of :19.728 in the 400-yard trial and earned a speed index of 96.

Apollitical Mogul ($3.00) was ridden by Berkley Packer for trainer Jason Olmstead and owner Tom Maher. The filly was bred in Texas by Mercy Hinklins Horse Farm, LLC, by Apollitical Jess and out of Cast Cartel, by Corona Cartel.

This will be her fourth stakes appearance. Last fall, she qualified to the Valley Junction Futurity at Prairie Meadows and finished second in the final. She was also second in the NCQHRA Futurity at Canterbury last summer and was second in the Canterbury Park Derby this summer.

She has only finished out of the money three times in her 15 career starts and has earnings of over $80,000.

The first trial produced the second and third fastest qualifiers, Jess Wagon P with a time of 19.765 and Mansory in 19.775. The pair were separated by just a nose at the wire.

Edwuin Lujan had the call on Jess Wagon P ($4.40) for owner and trainer Randy Hill. The Mr Jess Perry filly was bred in Texas by Michael Pohl, out of Ride My Wagon, by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.

Jess Wagon P recently won her first stakes race, the Canterbury Park Derby, a head in front of Apollitcal Mogul.

Mansory was ridden by Berkley Packer for trainer Jason Olmstead and owner Summer Run, Inc. He was bred in Texas by Bobby Cox, by Ivory James and out of Sinuous, by Mr Jess Perry.

This was Mansory’s first start at Prairie Meadows. As a 2-year-old, he finished fourth in the Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity at Canterbury.
