Lj Moonrise Demolishes ARC Distaff Lone Star Field, Punches Ticket for Albuquerque

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 4, 2019— Lj Moonrise scored the second stakes win for trainer and jockey Leon Bard and Francisco Calderon Friday night at Lone Star Park when she destroyed the field in the $27,957 ARC Lone Star Park Distaff Challenge. Earlier on the card Bard and Calderon teamed to win the Nevill Stakes with Sf Hot Pass.

Under Calderon, Lj Moonrise broke sharp then extended her lead with every jump to win by 2-¼ lengths, completing the 400 yards in :20.042 seconds into a 3 mph crosswind.

Bard saddled the daughter of Separatist to her first career stakes victory for owner P & Racing Ltd. Bred in Texas by Elizabeth Vivanco, from the One Famous Eagle mare Risen Eagle, Lj Moonrise has compiled a (11) 6-2-0 record and tonight's winner's purse valued at $13,419 increased her earnings total to $151,014. She was second in the TQHA Sale Futurity(RG3) at 2 and a finalist in the Sam Houston Derby(G3) and Retama Park Derby this year.

The win also garner's the 3-year-old filly a starting spot in the Grade 1 $100,000-est. ARC Distaff Challenge Championship(G1) on October 26th at The Downs at Albuquerque—during the Bank of America Challenge Championship Night.

No match for the winner Pamplonna finished well under jockey Ricky Ramirez to earn $5,731 for second. Jorge Haddad conditions the 3-year-old First Moonflash filly for himself and Mestre and Jorge Haddad. The homebred is out of Im A Feature Girl by Feature Me Jess. She increased her bankroll to $37,306.

Post-time favorite Jess Adalida got away slow but improved her position to finish half-a-length back in third for owner Ruben Garcia Montemayor. The daughter of multiple stakes sire Jess Louisiana Blue entered the race off back-to-back stakes wins in the French Quarter and Selma Stakes.

Josue Ponce conditions the Double Bar S Ranch LLC California-bred 4-year-old out of Worthherweightingold by First Down Dash. Victor Urieta, Jr. was riding. She earned $2,796 to increase her earnings to $172,914.

Save Be Jesus Jm, Enid Girl, Alinas War Princess, Classy Seis and Ym Valentine completed the field. Rvaliant Chick was scratched.

Live Quarter Horse Racing resumes Saturday, October 5 at 6:05 p.m. Gates open at 5 p.m.
