Opening Night At Los Alamitos Set For Friday – First Post Is 5:30 P.M. (Pacific)

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—DECEMBER 23, 2019—Los Alamitos Race Course begins its 70th year of live racing at the Cypress oval with opening night of its new meet set for Friday featuring a special first post time of 5:30 p.m.

The 8-race opening night card is a strong one, as it will average 7.75 horses per race and will be headed by a pair of allowance events. .

Michael Wrona will be in the announcer’s booth for his first opening night at Los Alamitos, as he takes over as the track’s full-time announcer following the retirement of Ed Burgart. Burgart will still be a part of the Los Alamitos racing program as the morning line maker. .

Jose Contreras will write the race analysis in the Night Lines program, while Chris Wade’s racing primer will return at its usual place on page 22. Chris’ Pick Four selections will also be featured in the night program. .

The Early Pick Four gets the action started with four distance races to be contested around the Vessels Course. Three of the four races will feature fields of eight horse or more. The main event on the card is the eighth race, an allowance dash with a $12,425 purse for 2-year-olds at 300 yards.

Eight runners have entered the feature test led by Fillies Freshman Stakes winner A Mere Bail. Trained by Santos Perez for EG High Desert Farms, A Mere Bail sharpened her speed in her most recent outing when running second at 110-yards. The A Mere Chocolate filly has hit the board in seven of nine career starts. -30-
