BOSSIER CITY, LA—JANUARY 28, 2020—A busy week is shaping up at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs, beginning on Friday (Jan. 31) with Mardi Gras schooling races scheduled at 11:00 am and live cards set for Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday.

Two fields of distance specialists will compete on Saturday, February 1 in the $25,000 Magnolia Stakes. Louisiana Downs racing officials have split the feature into two 870-yard races for accredited Louisiana-breds.

In the first division, which will run as the third race of the afternoon, Jesus Coronado’s Racing Kane, winner of the $30,000 Races and Aces Stakes at Evangeline Downs on November 2, faces four rivals at odds of 3-2. The 6-year-old, sired by Jet Black Patriot, will be making his 29th career start in pursuit of his seventh career win. Juan Garcia has the mount for trainer Noe R. Sanchez.

Going to Hollywood, owned and trained by Matt Frazier, will make his Louisiana Downs debut. The 6-year-old son of Heza Fast Dash was a multiple-allowance winner at Prairie Meadows and Indiana Grand and exits at runner-up finish in the Races and Aces Stakes. Jockey Shanley Jackson, who rides first call for Frazier at Indiana Grand, has the call and will break from post position five.

The highest earner in the field is Im Mighty Fast, owned by Triple M Racing Stables LLC, who will be making his fourth start in this feature. Sired by Mighty Corona, the 7-year-old gelding won the 2017 Magnolia Stakes and has earned $191,295 in 49 starts. Trainer Ricardo Castillo will give a leg up to Rolando Cabrera.

In the fifth race, Freakin Patriot Dash, owned by Jesus Huitron Lira, has been installed as the 8-5 morning line choice. The 5-year-old gelding by Game Patriot, now in the barn of Pedro Lopez, returns for his second start of the meet under rider Pedro Espinoza. He ran third in the 870-yard Marathon Stakes on January 11. Frazier and Jackson team up with Hollyhook, also sired by Game Patriot.

He competed in the $27,250 Covered Bridges (G3) on October 12 at Prairie Meadows and most recently, in the Races and Aces. Dudley G. Chewning’s Zoomins Jewel possesses the best record over the Louisiana Downs surface, winning three of his seven starts. Donald Watson will ride the 6-year-old son of Zoomin for Bux for trainer Heath Taylor.

Mardi Gras Schooling Races Set for Friday

Louisiana Downs will run 13 schooling races on Friday, January 31 for Louisiana-breds nominated to the $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity (RG2). The races will begin at 11:00 am but will not be live-streamed. However, on

Friday afternoon, a complete recap on each of the 220-yard heats will be posted on StallioneSearch.com and shared on LQHBA.com as well.

The trials for the Mardi Gras Futurity will take place on Saturday, February 22 with the ten fastest qualifiers returning for the final on Saturday, March 14.

Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest Continues This Saturday

Harrah’s Louisiana Downs is hosting an exciting on-track handicapping contest called the Road to Kentucky Handicapping Contest. It began on Saturday, January 18 with major stakes races, including key Kentucky Derby prep races featured each week through May 2. Fans can register at the contest table adjacent to the program stand with weekly prizes awarded and points accumulated toward the $1,000 grand prize.

The 2020 Quarter Horse racing season at Harrah’s Louisiana Downs continues through March 18. The 46-day meet includes 12 stakes highlighted by the first official championship for 2-year-olds, the $100,000-added Mardi Gras Futurity on March 14. Live racing will take place Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday with a 1:00 p.m. (Central) post time.
