SELMA, TX—AUGUST 26, 2020—Pete Scarmardo’s His Time To Deal, an undefeated homebred son of Dealagame, is one of 10 2-year-olds entered back in Saturday’s 350-yard, $221,160 TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity (RG3) at Retama Park.

His Time To Deal has won all three of his starts, including the 350-yard, $61,000 John Deere Sam Houston Juvenile Challenge (G3) at Retama Park on July 25. The sorrel gelding has banked $37,729.

His Time To Deal drew post 3 and will be ridden by Jose Vega for trainer Leon Bard.

Fastest qualifier One Incredible Hock made his local debut with a clear 2 3/4-length win in the first of eight trials on August 14. A finalist in the April 18, 330-yard Remington Park Futurity (RG1) for Oklahoma-breds, the Kiss My Hocks colt was a $15,500 purchase at last year’s Heritage Place Yearling Sale.

One Incredible Hock drew post 2 and will be ridden by Nestor Duran for owners Maria Gama Medrano and Hernan Medrano, and trainer Adrian Huitron.

The TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity is the richest of five Quarter Horse stakes on Retama Park’s 10-race program. Pamela S. Stone’s Easy Blinkers, a homebred stakes-winning Dealagame gelding trained by Angel Sanchez, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jose I. Martinez in Saturday’s 400-yard, $92,140 TQHA Sires’ Cup Derby (R).

Easy Blinkers has won one of two starts during the current Retama Park meet, and his career record includes a nose victory in last year’s TQHA Sires’ Cup Futurity. The gelding has earned $62,395 from six outs, all in Texas.

Other Sires’ Cup Derby contenders include Jose Ernesto Guzman’s Hit Or Miss Kiss, a stakes-placed daughter of Kiss My Hocks trained by Alonso Neri. Hit Or Miss Kiss ran second, a head behind winner Mr Tereso, in the July 3, $98,000 Old South Derby at Delta Downs.

Hit Or Miss Kiss drew post 10 and will be ridden by Victor Urieta Jr.

Silver City Lights heads a field of eight distance specialists entered in Saturday’s 870-yard, $40,000 San Marcos Stakes. A 4-year-old son of Silver City (TB) trained by Cindi Keeton for owners Jack Powers and Jerry Stanfield, Silver City Lights is coming off of a neck victory in the 870-yard, $53,000 Benny Pennington Memorial Stakes at Retama on July 24. The gray gelding drew post 5 and will be ridden by Luis Vivanco.

Eight Texas-bred sprinters will face the Retama Park starter in Saturday’s 350-yard, $40,000 Live Oak Stakes (R). One of three distaffers in the field, Edgar Rosales’ Ss Classyjess is coming off of a three-quarter length victory as the 9-5 favorite in the 350-yard, $54,000 Miss Retama Stakes (R) for state-bred fillies and mares on July 24. The 4-year-old Rock Solid Jess mare drew post 4 and will be ridden by Juan I. Garcia for trainer Jose Carrizales.
