Curls Happy Wagon Heads Field Of 10 In Saturday’s $50,000 Las Damas

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—NOVEMBER 19, 2020—Led by Grade 1 stakes winner Curls Happy Wagon, a tremendous group of 10 fillies and mares will get together in the running of the Grade 2, $50,000 Las Damas Handicap on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

This talented field is among the best in recent memory in the Las Damas, which is only appropriate considering that this race was upgraded to Grade 2 status for 2020.

The strength of this 400-yard event is highlighted by Michael Pohl and Martin Stacy’s Curls Happy Wagon (right), who was outstanding in winning the Grade 1 Mildred Vessels Memorial Handicap by 3/4 lengths on September 22. The PYC Paint Your Wagon mare has won three other stakes races in her career, while earning $308,174 in 17 starts. Armando Cervantes will pilot the Juan Aleman-trainee.

The top five finishers in the Millie will be in action in the Las Damas.

In addition to Curls Happy Wagon, this group also includes Jeryl Hartley’s Victorioso Dinastia, who finished second in the Millie at 16-1 odds and Ed Allred’s Hot Little Kiddy, the third-place finisher in the Millie. The Kiddy Up mare won the Whataway To Go Stakes in her last start on October 9. Ladys A Cartel and Symbol Of Faith, the fourth and fifth place finishers in the Millie, also return to action in the Las Damas.

The richest horse in this field is Tom Maher and Richard Tobin’s Lynnder 16, a multiple graded stakes winner of over $688,568. The Apollitical Jess filly won the Remington Park Oklahoma-bred Futurity in 2018 and most recently won the Grade 1 AQHA Distaff Challenge Championship.

Trainer Jason Olmstead’s star has been on the rise since beginning his career in 2014. He is currently the nation’s 10th leading trainer in earnings. Experienced stakes runners Chocolate Divinity, Fayvorite Chick, Galloping Goddess, and JR Prissys Blood will also race.
