LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 19, 2022—Link Newcomb’s Cattail Cove will make the 20th stakes appearance of his career, while Ed Allred’s Up And Atem will go after his second stakes win of the year when they lead a compact field of talented aged runners in the $20,000 Azure Three at Los Alamitos Race Course Saturday.
The two headliners are seasoned stakes veteran with Up And Atem winning the Restricted Grade 1 Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap on July 31, while Cattail Cove has done nothing both compete in stakes races.
The son of Favorite Cartel won the Grade 3 Independence Day Handicap on July 2 and his record includes 14 starts in graded stakes races. He has to be among the current leaders nationally in stakes appearances. Mister Tornado, Gentleman Chuck and Katella Avenue will also race.
The Azure Three is named in honor of the 1978 Vessels Maturity winner and the runner-up to Dash For Cash in the 1977 Champion of Champions. Azure Three won 12 races and earned over $209,000.
