Fastest Qualifier One Wild Cartel Headlines AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity

PHOENIX, AZ–DECEBER 5, 2022–
One Wild Cartel, a son of Five Bar Cartel and the fastest qualifier, drew post 10 for Thursday's 350-yard, $27,500-added Arizona QRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity at Turf Paradise.

A $15,000 claim at Delta Downs on May 19, One Wild Cartel has since won all three of his starts, including the September 3, $60,000 Arizona Downs Futurity. The gelding is trained by Ernesto Gonzalez for owner Kevin Vazquez.

One Wild Cartel is coming off of a three-quarter length victory in the last of five trials on November 16. The gelding will be ridden by Mark Jasso.

Other contenders include second-fastest qualifier Lake Havasu, a 2 3/4-length winner of his trial. A $10,500 purchase at last year's Heritage Place Yearling Sale in Oklahoma City, the gelded son of Seperate Interest has earned $63,589 from seven races, and he was shortening in distance off of his third-place finish, 1 1/4 lengths behind winner Restrictions, in the September 25, 400-yard La Fiesta Futurity at Albuquerque Downs.

Lake Havasu drew post 4 and will be ridden by Omar Iturralde for owner and trainer Osman Iturralde.

Also on Thursday, a dozen 2-year-olds are entered back in the 350-yard, $15,000 AQRA Turf Paradise Open Futurity Consolation Stakes. Scott McDaniel's Southwesterly, a stakes-winning daughter of the Favorite Trick (TB) stallion Favorite Cartel trained by John M. Allred, drew post 4 and will be ridden by Martin Osuna. A $37,000 yearling purchase at last year's Los Alamitos EquineSale, the California-bred filly has earned $46,616 from three outs, and her two wins include a neck victory as the fastest qualifier in the July 30, $91,000 John Deere Arizona Downs Juvenile Challenge.
