Three Thoroughbred Riders at Los Alamitos Test Positive For Coronavirus

CYPRESS, CA—JULY 11, 2020—According to an article published today on the TDN website, three Thoroughbred riders including Triple Crown winner Victor Espinoza, who competed at Los Alamitos Saturday, July 4 have tested positive for the coronavirus.

The Daily Racing Form reported Espinoza was tested Thursday but after not receiving his results by the 2 pm (PDT) opener of the Del Mar meet on Friday he took off all his mounts.

Espinoza's agent Brian Beach said the jockey was able to secure a test from the Scripps hospital in San Diego on Friday that came back later that afternoon confirming the positive.

Jockey Martin Garcia was scheduled to ride the Indiana Derby program at Indiana Grand was informed Wednesday of his positive.

Jockey Luis Saez, who rode Uncle Chuck in the GIII Los Alamitos Derby, rode two races at Keeneland Friday before his agent Kiaran McLaughlin confirmed his positive result.

In contrast to Garcia and Saez, Espinoza had not traveled anywhere by plane.
