Ruidoso Downs Presents Saturday Challenge Stakes Doubleheader

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—AUGUST 11, 2020—Lynnder 16, a 4-year-old daughter of world champion Apollitical Jess owned by Tom Maher and Richard Tobin, heads a field of nine fillies and mares entered in Saturday’s 400-yard, $31,136 ARC Ruidoso Distaff Challenge at Ruidoso Downs.

Lynnder 16 was a prompt even-money favorite in the July 7, $34,000 ARC Canterbury Distaff Challenge at Canterbury Park. The mare has earned $623,100 from 20 outs, and she was a finalist in last year’s Grade 1, $959,000 Ruidoso Derby (G1).

Lynnder 16 drew post 8 and will be ridden by Berkley Packer for trainer Jason Olmstead.

The complete lineup, in post position order including jockey assignments and morning-line odds:

Peves Jackpot Jack is the 3-1 morning-line favorite for Saturday’s 350-yard, $88,544 John Deere Ruidoso Juvenile Challenge (G3). Trained by Eddie Willis for owner Regina Laymon, the sorrel High Rate Of Return gelding set the fastest qualifying time with his 1 3/4-length victory in the second of four trials on July 31. Peves Jackpot Jack drew post 4 and will be ridden by Jimmy Brooks.

Also on Saturday, fastest qualifier Cherokee Senator heads a field of a dozen sophomores -- including two also-eligible entries -- entered in the 400-yard, $56,474 Adequan Ruidoso Derby Challenge. Trained by Mike Joiner for owner Wootan Racing, the homebred Louisiana Senator gelding scored a neck victory in the first of two trials on August 1. Cherokee Senator drew the rail post and will be ridden by Raul Ramirez Jr.
