Late Surge Gives First Moon Cat Edge In $32,229 Q-Racing Video Idaho Distaff Challenge

POCATELLO, ID—SEPTEMBER 24, 2022—With a late surge under jockey Santiago Jimenez, First Moon Cat (7-1) raced to a three-quarter length win over post time favorite Rtm Good Enough in the $32,229 Q-Racing Video Idaho Distaff Challenge Saturday at Pocatello Downs.

Under the direction of trainer Hector Magallanes First Moon Cat raced over the 400 yard course in :19.926 seconds, equaling a 96 speed index. It was the fourth career win in 24 starts for the daughter of multiple stakes sire Stray Cat The $14,990 winner's purse bring the 6-year-old mare's earnings total to $43,919.

Owner-breeder Jeff Ray bred First Moon Cat in Washington from the Juno Dat Cash mare Yak Ity Yak Go. She will also pick up an invites to the Grade 1 $125,000 Q-Racing Distaff Challenge Championship to be contested next month at Horseshoe Indiana during the Bank of America Challenge Champinship Night.

Coming off a win in the Idaho Cup Maturity in her last start, Rtm Good Enough put in a mild bid under jockey Dakota Wood to earn $6,401 for second. Mark Hanson conditions the 5-year-odl stakes winning Ivory James mare for owner RTM Stables, LLC. Susan Hanson bred the gray mare in Idaho from the Chickie Cherry Cola mare Rtm Say Your Prayers. She has earned $41,590.

Stablemate Rtm Belle finished a head back to earn $3,123 for third. Also trained by Hanson, the 3-year-old full sister to Rtm Good Enough was ridden by jockey Julian Zavala.  RTM Stables LLC owns the Ivory James daughter and Susan Hanson is the breeder. The filly has banked $22,797 in nine career starts.

Papas Eyes, No One Fights Alone, Im Perky, Rtm Glory Days and Eyez Of Cartel completed the field.
