Good Knight Country Scores Second Win of Day For Trainer Tammy Johnson In John Deere Juvenile

CLAREMORE, OK–OCTOBER 2, 2022–Trainer Tammy Johnson takes the trophy on back-to back-stakes races Sunday evening at Will Rogers Downs.

Johnson saddled Good Knight Country to victory in the $57,035 John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge just moments after leaving the winner’s circle of the Adequan WIll Rogers Derby Challenge. 

With Agustin Silva at the reigns, Good Knight Country who got sandwiched in the pack, made a late surge at the wire for a neck win over Meet Me Out Back. The slight upset victory was clocked with a 92 speed index in :17.830 seconds and paid $15.60 to win on 11-2 odds.

After breaking his maiden in the 350-yard John Deere Will Rogers Juvenile Challenge, Good Knight Country took home the $26,236 winner’s share of the purse upping his earnings to $30,934.

He also picked up a starting spot in the $125,000-est. John Deere Juvenile Challenge Championship to be contested on Bank of American Challenge Championship Night at Horseshoe Indianapolis October 22. 

Breeder Sarah Huskey owns Good Knight Country Man in partnership with Johnson. The son of Rock Solid Jess is out of the Country Chicks Man mare Country Mans Chick, who is a half-sister to G3 stakes winners FDP Rock Solid and I Cant See Jack.

Meet Me Out Back, ridden by Jesus Salazar, broke into the pack and held his own for second a neck ahead of Apollitical War and jockey Cody Smith. The second place finish upped his earnings to $29,509. This is the second stakes competition for the son of Dominyun, who was a finalist in the Speedhorse Futurity (G3) in July. 

Owner Jose Meraz bought Meet Me Out Back for $18,000 in last year’s Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale. The Bobby D. Cox bred gelding is out of the Mr Eye Opener mare Dianetogetcha, who is also the dam of World Champion sire Freighttrain B.

Third place finisher Apollitical War has two wins and one third from four starts with $23,112 in earnings. The son of Apollitical Blood is conditioned by Michelle Hurdle. Owned and bred by Double O Acres, LLC of Oklahoma, Apollitical War is out of Taberah by Inseperable.

The remaining order of finish is Phunatic, Ms Kiddy, O Seeyalater, No Doubtt, Bv Walkaway Joe and Tbt Meter Reader.
