RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JUNE 29, 2020—Thirty-two 3-year-old fillies, headed by multiple graded stakes winner Fernweh, are entered in Saturday’s 440-yard Rainbow Oaks trials at Ruidoso Downs.

Trained by Charles “Duke” Shults for owner Rusty Allred, Fernweh has won all four of her starts and has earned $541,118. The Favorite Cartel filly’s record includes victories in last year’s 350-yard, $1-million Ruidoso Futurity (G1), and the April 20, 400-yard Remington Park Derby (RG2) for Oklahoma-bred sophomores.

Fernweh will be making her first-ever start at the 440-yard distance. A $20,000 purchase at the 2018 Heritage Place Yearling Sale, the filly drew the rail post and will be ridden by Ricky Ramirez in the last of four trials.

Trainer Monty Arrossa will send out Southern Wagon for owner Dunn Ranch. A homebred daughter of Pyc Paint Your Wagon, the filly ships in from Los Alamitos, where she won the 350-yard, $30,000 La Pacifica Stakes on May 9 and ran second, a half of a length behind winner Dreams Divine, in the 400-yard, $404,000 Los Alamitos Oaks on March 28.

Southern Wagon drew post 2 and will be ridden by James Flores in the first heat.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will meet in the $250,000-est. Rainbow Oaks final on July 18.
