Track Record Holder Heads La Pacifica Field On Saturday Plus Top Juvenile Winners In Action

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—MAY 6, 2021—Haras Portofino’s Teller Jazz Mrl, who set a 110-yard track record in her last start, will looks to fly again when she leads a lineup of 10 sophomore fillies in the $30,000 La Pacifica Handicap at 350 yards on Saturday at Los Alamitos.

Ridden by Ramon Sanchez for trainer Paul Jones, Teller Jazz Mrl ran a perfect dash when setting the new mark back on March 26.

The filly by Teller Cartel ended up winning the 110-yard race by a half-length, a huge margin considering the distance. If she leaves the gate sporting those wins again, she’ll be difficult to catch. Sanchez will be looking for his 151st Los Alamitos stakes win.

Other top fillies in the field include recent allowance winners Chance It Now and Powerline Road. Ed Allred’s Chance It Now is a full sister to Grade 1 stakes winner Chance To Excel. Steve Burns’ Powerline Road will come in after consecutive allowance wins.

Top Group Of Juvenile Winners Get Together In Race 7

Led by Oklahoma Futurity finalist Apolitical Jeanius and impressive maiden winners Golden Boi and Apolitical Thunder, a field of six talented winning juveniles will get together in the seventh race $12,900 allowance at 300 yards here on Saturday night.

All six sprinters recorded wins in their first career starts with Dunn Ranch LLC’s Apolitical Jeanius the only two-time starter in the field. Purchased for $46,000 at the Ruidoso Yearling Sale, Apolitical Jeanius won her 300-yard trial to the Oklahoma Futurity for trainer Monty Arrossa before running seventh in final to Revenant Moon. She travels to Southern California as part of a good contingent of runners for Dunn Ranch.

She’ll be taking on a super group of local runners. M & G Farms, Inc’s Golden Boi is the owner of the fastest time at 220 yards of the meet when winning his debut in :12.08. Trained by Valentin Zamudio and to be ridden by Ruben Lozano, Golden Boi will start from post two.

Robyn Gordon, Jimmy and Marilyn Harrel and Thompson Racing Inc’s Griffindore won his debut by 1-½ lengths at 300 yards. His time of :15.93 is not among the meet’s fastest by a juvenile at this distance, but the colt by Corona Cartel drifted in during this race and was under a hold across the wire. If he can just cut loose and run cleanly, he should be a terror here.

Trainer Jose Flores will have two solid runners in this race in the form of Juan Humberto Moya’s Apolitical Thunder, who finished strong to win his debut by ¾ lengths, and Good Reason To Run, who powered through in the late going to win her first start by a neck.

Bobby Simmons’ Lukka will complete the field. He’s a colt by Eclipse Award winner Favorite Trick and will enter here after a ¾ victory in his debut on April 9.
