LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 23, 2021—A pair of trials to the Grade 2, $197,700 Golden State Derby headline the nine-race card on Sunday at Los Alamitos. The racing action will begin shortly after the final race at Del Mar. The horses with the 10 fastest clockings will advance to the 400-yard final to be held on Sunday, August 15.

Julianna Hawn Holt, one of the nation’s top owners and breeders, will have two outstanding fillies in each of the trials with Los Alamitos Two Million Futurity and Los Alamitos Oaks winner Apollitical Patty racing in trial two and Oklahoma Futurity(G2) winner Aint She Tempting competing in the opening heat.

Apollitical Patty, a daughter of leading third-crop sire Apollitical Blood, will enter having won eight of 10 career starts and her last four outings have been remarkable. She won the Oaks by two lengths and the Two Million by a half-length.

Aint She Tempting, a daughter of champion sire Tempting Dash, will come in after running second in the Oaks and last year she was the runner-up in the Golden State Million. She’s hit the board in nine of her 10 career starts.

Both fillies are trained by Monty Arrossa.

As usual, the lineup of sophomores is brimming with standouts and while several have enjoyed big-time success, there are also several in primetime form looking for an upset win.

Some of those runners to have enjoyed a trial win last year include Thats R Best Card, a PCQHRA Breeders and Ed Burke Million trial winner, and Gentry Farms’ College Scandal and Edwin Boltares’ Unstoppable One, winners on Robert Adair Kindergarten trial night, plus Golden State Million Futurity trial winner Watch Over Bella.
