Six Grade 1 Winners Headline $125,000 Los Alamitos Championship On Saturday

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 6, 2021—Six Grade 1 stakes winners led by Ed Allred’s defending champion Chocolatito will headline an outstanding 10-horse field in the 67th running of the Grade 1, $125,000 Robert Boniface Los Alamitos Invitational Championship at 440 yards here on Saturday night.

The winner of the Los Alamitos Championship will earn a presumptive berth to the December 11 Champion of Champions but wins by Allred’s (GI) Vessels Maturity winner Circle City or Rosenthal Ranch’s (GI) Brad McKinzie Los Alamitos Winter Championship winner Powerful Favorite, both of which already have presumptive berths to the Champion of Champions, would make Dr. Steve Burns’ You Can Run the biggest beneficiary of the night.

If either Circle City or Powerful Favorite win this race, You Can Run, who would earn the Champion of Champions berth thanks to his victory in the (G1) Go Man Go Handicap on August 29. The Go Man Go serves as the first alternate race to the Champion of Champions in the event a horse earns multiple presumptive berths or if a horse with a berth turns it down.

You Can Run could also earn the berth with a win of his own, as he’s among the Grade 1 winners in this race. Apollitical Pence is the defending Champion of Champions winner and one of the other Grade 1 winner in this event. The sixth horse with a Grade 1 stakes win to his name is Bail Czech who won the 2019 Restricted Grade 1 Spencer Childers California Breeders Championship Handicap.

With the Allred-owned stablemates Chocolatito and Circle City, Rosenthal Ranch’s Powerful Favorite, You Can Run, Apollitical Pence and Bail Czech the Los Alamitos Championship will have as formidable a lineup as any in the nation for older horses this year.

Chocolatito won this race in 2020 after outdueling the great Zoomin for Spuds by a nose last year. The son of Favorite Cartel has not won a race since that October evening, but the quarter mile distance is right up his alley. Circle City has been the top aged horse of the meet thus far thanks to his victories in the Vessels Maturity and the Spencer Childers. Circle City’s full brother, Nomadic, who ran second in both the Spencer Childers and Go Man Go, adds depth and class to this Los Alamitos Championship.

Other World, a red-hot 3-year-old with a four-race win streak, multiple Grade 1 stakes placed runner Cattail Cove and Dunn Ranch’s Really First Down, a solid stakes runner in Oklahoma, will complete the field.

The card will also feature the Sound Dash Handicap and Autumn Handicap.

Grade 1 winner Kiss Thru Fire heads the Sound Dash while Run By Your Cartel, Cactus Jack and Mookkie are among the toph freshman in the Autumn field.
