Big Night Of Golden State Million Futurity Trials On Tap

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—OCTOBER 6, 2021—Ed Burke Million Futurity winner Golden Boi, All American Futurity finalist Jess Dream Of Me, Heritage Place Futurity finalist Dreamsville and Rainbow Futurity finalist Significant Dynasty are among the 92 juveniles that will race during a huge night of trials to the Grade 1, $1,112,300 Golden State Million Futurity on Sunday at Los Alamitos.

Twelve races are on tap on Sunday with 11 of them Golden State Million trials at 400 yards. The racing program will feature three Pick Four wagering opportunities, plus the Pick Six sequence will either feature a carryover from Saturday night or the $10,000 Pick Six Promotion seed money added to the pool. All in all, it’s one of the biggest Quarter Horse racing nights of the year with first post set for 5:50 p.m. (PDT).

There’s a nationally flavor to these trials, as 44 of the Golden State Million contenders recently raced out of state, all but two of them having made at least one start at Ruidoso Downs in New Mexico.

The first trial of the night is among the strongest as M&G Farms, Inc.’s homebred Golden Boi will kick off the trial action against Dunn Ranch LLC’s Ed Burke rival Hallelujah Nights and James Sills’ Remington Park Oklahoma-Breeders Futurity finalist Trapper Jon. The field will also feature Ed Allred’s Vamoosing, who won the California Breeders Freshman Stakes earlier this year while defeating Golden Boi in the process in that race.

All eyes will be on Golden Boi, the Favorite Cartel colt trained by Valentin Zamudio and ridden by Ruben Lozano, as he returns to action since the Freshman Stakes. Golden Boi had a turn and work in :18.60 on September 4 and now faces some tough rivals in his return to action. He’ll start from post number five.

Hallelujah Nights had a troubled start and never challenged in the Ed Burke, but then went to Ruidoso Downs to compete in the trials to the All American. The son of PYC Paint Your Wagon had a good showing there, winning his heat over the previously mentioned Significant Dynasty and then running a game third in the $200,000 All American Juvenile, which is the consolation to the All American final. Monty Arrossa will saddle the Dunn-bred runner.

Trapper Jon has already started at Los Alamitos, bobbling at the start and fading to fourth in his September 25 debut. Trained by Eddie Willis, he had three good showing at Remington Park in the spring, so an improvement off his debut is expected. The James Glenn Jr.-trained Vamoosing finished beautifully to win the Freshman Stakes at 350 yards and like Golden Boi, he’s been waiting for this night. He worked nicely 220 yards in :12.60 on October 3.

Race three, which is trial number two, will have Heritage Place Futurity finalist Dreamsville leading the way as he makes his local debut for trainer Juan Aleman and owner Elizabeth Logan. The gelding by Hes Relentless finished fourth in the $1.3 million race before posting two solid runner-up efforts at Ruidoso Downs in the trials to the Rainbow and All American futurities. Juan Moya and Jaime Gomez’s Sizzling N Fast, who qualified to the Governor’s Cup Futurity, is among the top contenders in this trial.

In the next trial – race four – Gregory Collum and Raymond Merrill’s Jess Dream Of Me heads the lineup as she arrives here after running sixth to KJ Desparado in the rich 440-yard All American final.

The filly by Apollitical Jess won her All American trial by ¾ lengths and before that she was a ¾ length winner in her Rainbow trial. She was also second in her Ruidoso Futurity trial. Even her sixth-place finish in the All American was impressive, as she was ninth early on after a slow start before closing powerfully to finish near the front half of the field.

Jess Dream Of Me has been a headliner since before her official racing debut, as she was the big star on the first day of training races at Ruidoso Downs going back to May 3. Cruz Mendez will ride the Speed LLC-bred runner for trainer Jose Flores in her Los Alamitos debut.

In race five, Adina Baker’s Just A Kool Boy is one to watch after trainer Eddie Willis sung his praises prior to his first Los Alamitos start on September 26. The Favorite Cartel colt went on to win his local debut by daylight and his reward is facing Remington Park Oklahoma Futurity finalist Dreams Of The Heart and Significant Dynasty.

Scott Bryant’s Dashin Moonflash is among the top contenders in race six, while Ed Burke Million runner-up In Hott Pursuit, who races for Dunn Ranch, heads the seventh race. Purchased for $220,000, the colt by One Famous Eagle has won his All American Futurity trial impressively as well and has won three of his four career starts.

Owned by a partnership, Docs Fastlane is a two-time futurity finalist at Los Alamitos, including in the Ed Burke, but he’ll be tackling Ruidoso invaders Minecraft and Delight Us All in race eight. This one of the most wide opens trials of the night. The ninth race is headed by La Feliz Montana Ranch LLC’s Jess Right On Cue, who like a few of the previously mentioned runners was a trial winner to the All American.

LOS LLC and Abelardo Gallegos’ Apollitical J Legacy qualified to the Ruidoso Futurity back in June and now gets top billing in race 10 here.

The last two trials will include All American Juvenile finalist Whizkey Glasses, who won the Easy Jet Stakes at Ruidoso Downs, Beduino Surprise, who has won his last two stars at Los Alamitos in powerful fashion, Governor’s Cup Futurity finalist Nevada Charles, and Braggin Rites, who placed in a pair of Grade 1 trials at Ruidoso.
