Undefeated Streakin Fast Blood Leads $170,840 Old South Futurity Field at Delta Downs

VINTON, LA – MAY 18, 2023 – Nine qualifiers from nine trials will return to Delta Downs on Saturday night to contest the $170,840 Old South Futurity.

Streakin Fast Blood posted the fastest qualifying time of :17.103 in the 330-yard trials on April 29 and seeks to keep her undefeated record intact in her third career start.

One of three fillies in the field, Streakin Fast Blood is a daughter of Apollitical Blood and is out of the Streakin La Jolla mare Southern La Jolla, bred in Texas by her owner, Maria Guadalupe Arazia. She is trained by Willie Simien, Jr. and will break from post 6 with J.R. Ramirez in the irons. Ramirez has been aboard for Streakin Fast Blood’s previous races at Delta and Louisiana Downs.

To her outside will be one of the other fillies in the field, San Lorenzita, who finished second to Streakin Fast Blood in their trial and was the second fastest qualifier in :17.117.

The Ivan James filly is out of the multiple graded stakes winning mare Dashnunder Afullmoon. She is a Texan homebred for Rogelio Marquez, Jr. and is trained by Jesus Marquez.

San Lorenzita has two second place finishes from three starts and leads the field by earnings with $25,333. She qualified to the Louisiana Downs Futurity (G2) and finished fourth in the final in March.

The only other horse in the field with futurity experience is Woopaa123, who finished fifth behind San Lorenzita in the Louisiana Downs Futurity. The Flying Cowboy 123 gelding finished fourth in the same trial as the two fastest qualifiers and was sixth fastest overall for trainer Jose Espinosa.

Third fastest qualifier Frankie Jr won his trial for trainer Jose Sanchez, III. The Kas Tempting gelding cleared ninth fastest qualifier Regardlezz by a length in his maiden-breaking effort.

The $170,840 Old South Futurity is Race 8 at Delta on Saturday, May 20. Post time is 9:05 PM C.T.
