Remington Park Oaks Winner, Kool N Foxy, Is Morning-Line Favorite For Jack Brooks Stakes

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—MAY 26, 2023—Remington Park Oaks winner Kool N Foxy has been made the 3-1 favorite by morning line maker Jerry Shottenkirk for the $50,000 Jack Brooks Stakes on Saturday. The event is for Oklahoma-bred 3-year-olds at 350 yard.

If Kool N Foxy wins the Jack Brooks Stakes, the 3-year-old filly will have earned her money. Also a part of the 10-horse field are the second-, fourth- and fifth-place finishers in the $190,000 Remington Park Derby on April 22 at this Oklahoma City track – Defours, Racys Pilot and Nunothat, respectively.

Kool N Foxy, a daughter of One Famous Eagle, out of the Walk Thru Fire mare Kool Fire, is on a two-race win streak, winning her Oaks trial and then the finals.

She was ridden to victory by Daniel Torres, who will not be back to Remington Park for this return engagement. Cristian Esqueda picks up the mount for trainer Shawna Manriquez and owner Thomas Scheckel of Bellevue, Iowa.

The 3-year-old filly favorite has raced nine times in her career, won four, run second twice and has won $123,414. She also picked up some black type, winning the Juvenile Challenge Stakes last year at Prairie Meadows in Altoona, Iowa. She was purchased for $40,000 at the Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale in 2021. Kool N Foxy was bred in Oklahoma by Jerry Cate.

RGs Gold Wagon has been installed as the second favorite at 4-1. That 3-year-old gelding by Prized Wagon, out of the Gol mare JA Gols Debutante, was the $306,000 Evangeline Downs Futurity in Louisiana last year and is the top money earner in the field with $236,024 in his bankroll.

He has run 14 times, winning four, running second three times and third twice. He finished eighth in the Remington Park Derby. RGs Gold Wagon was bred in Oklahoma by Roy Garza. He is owned by Mauricio Garza of Mission, Texas.

Jockey Cordarelton Benn gets a leg up from trainer Steven Jordan aboard RGs Gold Wagon.

The third favorite in the morning line is Mitey Like a Rose at 5-1 for owner Dunn Ranch (Matt Dunn) of Wynnewood, Okla., trainer Monty Arrossa and jockey Juan Pulido.

Pulido is the leading rider at Remington Park by winning percentage, getting to the winner’s circle at a 21 percent clip. It will be his first time in the saddle for Mitey Like A Rose.

Mitey Like a Rose has never won a stakes race, but was beaten only a half-length in the $974,000 Remington Park Futurity here last year. Raul Valenzuela rode her back then.

The 3-year-old filly by FDD Dynasty, out of the Carters Cartel mare Cartel Rosie, ran fourth in that spot on April 16, 2022, when San Lorenzo Ivory and PYC Avenue dead-heated for that win. Mitey Like a Rose was a nose back of third-place finisher, Eye On the Card, now a stakes winner.
