Coronado Kiss Leads Fast Trial as Top Qualifier to South Valley Futurity

SOUTH JORDAN, UT—JUNE 7, 2020—After a day of trials for the Beehive Futurity, trials continued at Laurel Brown on Sunday afternoon, starting with three trials for the South Valley Futurity. The $26,178 final will be held on June 20.

The first trial proved the fastest, as the top three finishers from the race were the three fastest overall qualifiers, led by Coronado Kiss, who covered the 330-yard distance in 17.340 and earned an 85 speed index.

Jockey Eric Ayala guided the Coronado Cartel gelding to a length and a half victory for trainer Monty Arrossa and owners Andrea and Eddie Jensen. Coronado Kiss was bred in Utah by Allreds Horse Haven, out of the Maknmoves mare Sixteen Kisses. He debuted in a maiden race at Weber and Sunday’s trial win was his first win.

Second place finisher Picture Esque was the second fastest qualifier in 17.529 and finished just a nose in front of third fastest qualifier Apollitical Azurfame in 17.549.

Picture Esque made her career debut in the trial race. Uriel Dominguez had the call for trainer Glade Van Tassell and owner Melody Olsen. She was bred in California by Steve Burns, by Favorite Cartel and out of Sweetest Illusion, by Mr Jess Perry.

It was the second career effort for Apollitical Azurfame, who finished second in a maiden race last month at Weber. The Apollitical Jess filly was ridden by Oscar Cervantes for trainer Alvaro Torres. Darian Burt bred and owns the filly, who is out of the Dash Ta Fame mare Fames Qtpi, a multiple graded stakes placed mare in New Mexico.

Fourth fastest qualifier Transpiring won last of the three trials with a time of 17.664 under Uriel Dominguez. It was the career debut for the Foose filly, who is trained by Glade Van Tassell and owned by Jeffrey Smith. Steve Burns bred the filly in California, out of Proud Checker, by Check Him Out.
