Julias Dazzle Sparkles In Heartland Futurity Trials At Indiana Grand

SHELBYVILLE, IN—JULY 4, 2020—Trainer Tony Cunningham and Jockey L.D. (Daniel) Martinez polished off a great day in the Heartland Futurity Trials Saturday, July 4 during the all-Quarter Horse racing program.

The duo recorded their fourth win on the card with Julias Dazzle, the quickest qualifier headed to the $50,000 final of the Heartland Futurity set for Wednesday, July 22 at Indiana Grand.

Starting from post six in the first of three trials, Julias Dazzle got away in mid pack but began picking up momentum as the finish line came into view, reaching the wire by a nose over Lone Cartel and Giovani Vazquez-Gomez. Heza Fumar Red and Sammy Mendez finished third in a time of :15.583.

It was the second career start for Julias Dazzle, who is owned by Jane Marie Arendsen. The sorrel Foose filly was bred in Texas by King Camden Running Horses, Inc.

The second fastest trial of the day went to Shez Bodacious and Natasha Fritz, scoring the win in a time of :15.587. The daughter of Bodacious Dash was a threat from the start, eventually getting the best of the 10-horse lineup for the maiden breaking win. They finished one length ahead of Milk Shake Baby and Cristian Reyes, who were on the winning end of a tight photo to finish second. WRs Buster Brown and Sammy Mendez finished a nose back in third in the 300-yard dash.

Owned by Pattie and Brad Marshall, Shez Bodacious is trained by Tim Eggleston. Shez Bodacious was bred in Texas by Johnny Trotter.

The third and final trial for the Heartland Futurity was won by Fancy Creole Queen and Shanley Jackson. The duo began from the center of the track in post four and followed BP Fancy Lady and Erik Esqueda early on before powering by for the win by a head in :15.623. WRs Moonin Thewagon and Sammy Mendez finished second over BP Fancy Lady.

Trained by Rex Brooks, Fancy Creole Queen was making her first start in Indiana after two outings at Remington Park, including a win in her most recent race. The Oklahoma bred filly by Im a Fancy PYC is owned by Julio Contreras.

Trainer Randy Smith will saddle three in the final (Heza Fumar Red, WRs Moonin Thewagon, WRs Buster Brown) and Tim Eggleston will saddle two (Shez Bodacious, Non Compos).

Live racing continues through Wednesday, Nov. 18 with action held Monday through Thursday beginning at 2:20 p.m. Four Saturday programs are slated for all-Quarter Horse days set for July 4, Aug. 8, Oct. 23 and Oct. 24.
