Mpshinning Closes Late in Narrow $30,000 King Williams Stakes Victory at Retama

SELMA, TX—JULY 4, 2020—Mpshinning and Nestor Duran flew home to take the $30,000 King Williams Stakes at Retama on Saturday night. After breaking in last place, Mpshinning made a late surge to win by a neck over the 2019 winner of the race, Krash Course.

The final time for the 350-yard event was 17.716; the winner earned a 94 speed index.

Mpshinning ($7.20) is trained by Adrian Huitron and owned by Larry Boudreaux. Jon and Donna MacPherson bred the 4-year-old colt in Louisiana, by Mr Piloto and out of Shinningperrydash, by First to Shine.

The accomplished colt has multiple stakes wins to his credit, including the LQHBA Louisiana Million Futurity (RG1) at Evangeline in 2018. He has also finished in the money in the Dash For Cash Futurity (G2), the Dash For Cash Derby (G2) and the LQHBA Breeders Derby (RG3). He has earned an impressive $716,045 in his 17 career starts, with eight wins and four second-place finishes.

The defending champion of the King William Stakes, Krash Course, finished in second place. Pedro Espinosa had the call for trainer Adrian Huitron and owner Martha Nevarez. The 5-year-old Krash Cartel horse was bred in Texas by Bennie and Terri Jeter out of Rare Eye Opener, by Mr Eye Opener.

Krash Course has five wins in his 16 career starts with $63,428 in earnings.

He was second in the TQHA Classic (RG2) last year and qualified to several derbies as a 3-year-old, including the Dash For Cash Derby (G3) and the Retama Park Derby.

Kiss My Whuut was completed the trifecta with Juan Polido up for owner Three Bar T Quarter Horses. The 3-year-old is trained by Cindi Keeton, who also bred the gelding in Texas, by Kiss My Hocks and out of Not My Choice, by Jody O Toole.

Kiss My Whuut won three consecutive races late in his 2-year-old year, ending with the Evangeline Downs Fututity (G3). He has earned $159,885 in his career to date.

Completing the field were Mi Amor Secreto, Temptingsecretly, Carry the Memories, Jess Master Angel and Serendipity Rocks. Pa Cha Ching and Woulda were scratched.
