EVANSTON, WY—JULY 6, 2020—Ikes R Hero, under jockey Oscar Cervantes, battleU Double Sledge to the wire Sunday, posting a neck win and the fastest qualifying time for the 89 & Under (not black type) at Wyoming Downs.
The 10 fastest qualifiers, from three trials conducted for 3 & Up horses who had not run higher than an 89 speed index at time of entry, will return to Wyoming Downs Sunday, July 19th to vie for the winner's share of $10,000-added purse going 400 yards.
Conditioned by owner-trainer Todd D. Williams, Ikes R Hero completed the 400 yards as the heavy post-time favorite in :19.652 seconds, equaling a 101 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind.
The 3-year-old son of multiple stakes sire Mighty B Valiant has compiled a (12) 3-3-1 record and earned $29,566. He was a finalist in the KVN Corona Derby earlier this year at Weber Downs as well as the Utah Bred Futurity last summer at Wyoming Downs.
Reese Farms Quarter Horse LLC bred the sorrel gelding from the Okey Dokey Dale mare RF Carrie Okie.
Almost Early, a daughter of 2020 leading sire Favorite Cartel dominated the filed in the last trial with a 1-½ length win while getting the second fastest time of :19.744 seconds, a 98 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind.
Riley Moosman conditions the California-bred filly for owner Gordon Knudsen. Jesus Valenzuela rode the bay filly out of Gulfstream Girl by Pritzi Dash. It was the first win five career starts for the Edward C. Allred bred runner.
