Cajun Kings Sets Top Mark In OHA Mystery Derby Trials In First Start of Year
Last year's Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Futurity winner Cajun King posted the fastest time in the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Derby trials on Saturday at Will Rogers Downs.

Cajun Kings Sets Top Mark In OHA Mystery Derby Trials In First Start of Year

CLAREMORE, OK—SEPTEMBER 12, 2020—Making his first start since winning the Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Futurity(RG3) last November, Cajun King rolled to a three-quarter length win to set the top qualifying time for the 2020 Oklahoma Horsemen's Association Mystery Derby Saturday at Will Rogers Downs.

Under jockey Jimmy Brooks, Cajun King completed the 350 yards in :17.726 seconds, equaling a 92 speed index, in the first of three trials for accredited Oklahoma-Bred 3-year-olds, to set the top mark. Trainer Eddie D. Willis saddled the homebred son of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel for owner-breeder Abel Flores.

Out of the Scrutinizer mare Easydoesitcindy, Cajun King has compiled a (9) 3-3-0 record and banked $114,200. The RG3-stakes winner was also a finalist in the Black Gold 350 Championship Futurity and the Heritage Place Juvenile last season.

Willis saddled four the 10 Mystery Derby qualifiers today including 5th fastest Rita Back On Track; 7th fastest Valiant Memorie; and 10th fastest Ew Train On Fire.

Coming off a win in the Gillespie County Fair Derby August 23rd, Dynasty Cartel defeated Carson City Train by 1-˝ lengths in the closing trial to get the second fastest clocking of :17.763 seconds, a 91 speed index.

Champion jockey James Flores had the riding call aboard the stakes winning son of world champion sire FDD Dynasty for trainer Fidencio Jimenez. Dynasty Cartel extended his win streak to three for owner Martin Gonzalez-Sanchez. Bred by Flag Ranch LLC, from the Corona Cartel mare A Snow Cartel, Dynasty Cartel has earned $78,467. He was a finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby(RG2) in April.

Flores also rode Really First Down to victory in the second trial for trainer Monty Arrossa and owner Dunn Ranch. The son of all-time leading sire First Down Dash posted the third fastest time of :17.828 seconds, an 89 speed index.

Bred by Matt Dunn, from the Corona Cartel mare Really A Corona, Really First Down broke his maiden in his last start at Fair Meadows July 25th. A finalist in the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby(RG2) in April he has earned $21,238.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Will Rogers Downs on Sunday, September 27th to vie for the winner's share of the $85,000-est. purse.
