A Double Corona, under jockey Eddie Sanchez, sets a new 350 yard track record on Thursday night while winning the $400,000 LQHBA Sale Futurity(RG1) at Evangeline Downs.

A Double Corona Sets New Track Record In $400,000 LQHBA Sale Futurity Win

OPELOUSAS, LA—OCTOBER 22, 2020—At odds of 16-1, A Double Corona set a new track record while defeating 2-5 post time favorite Sheza Freighttrain T by 1-˝ lengths in the $400,000 LQHBA Sale Futurity(RG1) Thursday night at Evangeline Downs.

Under jockey Eddie Sanchez, the $50,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale repurchase completed the 350 yards in :17.196 seconds, to establish a new EVD track record, earning a 105 speed index into a 3 mph crosswind. Dashin Brown Streak set the previous record of :17.235 seconds on December 20, 2014.

Racing for owners Tommy Hays and Bobby Barnett, the son of champion and first-crop sire Open Me A Corona earned $214,133 for the effort, pushing his career mark to $225,733 in only four starts.

Conditioned by trainer Jose Sanchez III, A Double Corona broke his maiden in the October 1st trials to get the fifth fastest qualifying time. He was second in both of his other two starts, a trial for Lee Berwick Futurity and a trial for the Laddie Futurity.

Bred by Barnett, from the RG2-placed Dashin Bye mare Corona Dashin Bye, A Double Corona is from the family of champions Sixy Chick, Gotta Get and champion sire Sixarun.

Runner-up Sheza Freightrain T suffered only her second career loss from six starts this season. The daughter of leading sire Freighttrain B won the Lassie Futurity(RG2) in July and was second in the Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2) last Spring.

Racing for owner Patrick Richardson and trainer Eric Long, Sheza Freightrain T earned $80,895 for her effort to increase her earnings total to nearly $316,000. Rusty Trahan bred the $50,000 LQHBA Yearling Sale graduate from the Carters Cartel mare Cloning Around. Rolando Pina had the riding assignment.

Fast Dashin Diamond, a $25,000 LQHBA graduate, finished a neck back to earn $47,585 for third. Champion trainer Kenneth Roberts, Sr. conditions the filly by leading sire Heza Fast Dash for owner Mo Racing. David Alvarez had the riding call aboard the Margie Loop bred filly out of Diamonds R Forever by FDD Dynasty. She has earned $60,705 in four starts this year.

A Political Rose, Tdz Rolex Rattler, Jrs Shiney Tee, Fast Dash Group, Tee Zo, Carter Winning Edge and Apolitical Ivory completed the field.
