Valiant Tiberias Wins Most Lucrative Grade 1 Refrigerator Stakes In History

Valiant Tiberias Wins Most Lucrative Grade 1 Refrigerator Stakes In History

GRAND PRAIRIE, TX—OCTOBER 25, 2020—Multiple graded winner Valiant Tiberias got his second Grade 1 victory Sunday night when he ran down Dexxter by a head in the $200,000 Refrigerator Stakes at Lone Star Park.

The son of champion sire Valiant Hero broke near the back of the 12-horse field, under jockey Manuel Urieta, Jr., but fought to the victory down the inside rail while completing the 440 yards in :21.433 seconds, equaling a 99 speed index with a 8 mph crosswind.

Trainer Alonso Neri saddled the 4-year-old gelding to his eighth career win for owners Sergio Holguin, Clifton Nielsen and Felix Rodriguez. Valiant Tiberias won the Grade 3 Mr Jet More Handicap at Ruidoso last summer and was also third in the All American Gold Cup(G1) and the Leo Stakes(G1) this season.

Bred in Oklahoma by Reliance Ranches, from the Feature Mr Jess mare American Feature, Valiant Tiberias has compiled a (19) 8-3-3 record and has banked $572,173. His first Grade 1 win came in the Championship at Sunland Park last December.

Multiple Grade 1 winner Dexxter, under champion jockey James Flores, suffered his first loss of the season with a game second-place effort worth $32,000. The Monty Arrossa trainee won the Grade 1 All American Gold Cup at Ruidoso Downs in his last start.

Racing for owners Dunn Ranch and Valeriano Racing Stables LLC, the son of leading sire Corona Cartel also won the Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship(G1) and the Leo Stakes(G1) this season.

McColee Land & Livestock LLC bred the 4-year-old gelding in Utah from the Tres Seis mare Tres Of Linda. He has earned $492,012.

Multiple stakes winner Jordan Eagle lead early but finished half-a-length back in third for owner Javier Rosique. Also trained by Neri, the son of One Famous Eagle was ridden by jockey Manuel Gutierrez.

Weetona Stanley bred the colt in Texas from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Pyc Prize Doll. The $18,000 third-place payday increased Jordan Eagle's earnings total to $260,858.

Eysa Jess Jumpn, one of only two mares in the field of 12, bumped with a rival out of the gate and there was no catching up with the top three finishers.

The Heza Fast Dash filly went undefeated last year as a 3-year-old including wins in the Dash For Cash Derby(G2), Sam Houston Derby(G3), Delta Downs LA-Bred Derby(RG3), LQHABA Breeders' Derby(RG3) and Billy Montgomery Stakes. She had won 11 straight races before tonight and has earned $921,537.

The complete order of finish was Valiant Tiberias followed by Dexxter, Jordan Eagle, Midday News, Diamond and a Half, Stone Cold Leader, Viva Le Don, Hot Dam Bam a Lam, Eysa Jess Jumpn, Zoomin On Bye, New News and Kleptomaniac.
