El Painted Eagle Leads The Way In The Second Day of Ruidoso Schooling Races

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—MAY 4, 2021—El Painted Eagle, a gelding trained by Health Taylor and ridden by Rodrigo Vallejo, had the fastest time after two days of schooling races completed at Ruidoso Downs Race Track today.

El Painted Eagle, who ran the 300 yards in :15.648, is owned by Jose Luis Ozona and is by One Dashing Eagle out of Royally Painted by Pyc Paint Your Wagon.

"It was a last-minute decision to put him in the training races because the gelding had just gotten over a cold, and we only brought him to town on Sunday. We jogged him over the track yesterday so he could just see it. He appears to be a long-striding youngster, and we think he’s going to like longer distances," said trainer Health Taylor. "We’ll have him ready for the Futurity trials opening weekend, but for having just arrived, we thought we ran very well and has promise."

El Painted Eagle is from the family of 2020 Remington Park Distance Challenge(G2) winner Higher Flyin Eagle and champions Time For A Cigar and Royaltime Classic.

Dupontonfire, a daughter of first-crop sire Duponte, finished second to El Painted Eagle to get the second fastest clocking of :17.000. Trey Wood conditons the $40,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate for owners Gary and Christi Hart Byrd. The sorrel filly, out of Streakin Thru Fire by Walk Thru Fire, is from the family of stakes winners First Special Dash, Dashin With Johnny and Island Girl.

Strong Soul, a $30,000 Ruidoso Select Yearling Sale graduate by first-crop sire A Revenant, won the seventh race for owner Newman Cattle Company, LLC and trainer Trey Wood. The sorrel colt, out of the Grade 3 winning Shazoom mare Mighty Shazoom, stopped the timer in :15.756 seconds for the third fastest time of the day.

The second dam of Strong Soul is stakes winner Mighty Obsession, by Runaway Winner, a half-sister to Remington Park Futurity winner Mighty B Valiant and Dash For Cash Derby(G1) winner Mighty Invictus.

Passeanna, a New Mexico Bred daughter of multiple stakes sire Big Daddy Cartel from the multiple graded winning Woodbridge mare Woodys Allstar, posted the fourth fastest clocking on Tuesday of :15.802 seconds.

Owned by C. Denis and Julie Schoenhofer, she is a half-sister to stakes-placed Miss Woody James. Michael Joiner trains with Raul Ramirez, Jr., getting the riding assignment.

The five fastest starters of the day include El Painted Eagle (:15.648), Dupontonfire (:15.700), Strong Soul (:15.756), Passeanna (:15.802), and Shesa Favorite Shayl (:15.820). Full results from both days of training races.
