Soverynne Gets First Win In Arizona Downs Maiden Stakes Tuesday

PRESCOTT VALLEY, AZ—JULY 20, 2021—Second fastest qualifier Soverynne turned the tables today at Arizona Downs when she returned to defeat Chocolate Wagon by three-quarters in the $14,000 Arizona Downs Maiden Stakes (not black type) at Arizona Downs. Fastest qualifier Our Darling Corona finished a nose back third.

Under jockey Kevin Carbajal, Soverynne set the pace early then extended her lead to three-quarters while stopping the clock in :17.649 seconds, a 92 speed index for the 350 yards. It was the first win in eight career starts for the daughter of leading sire One Famous Eagle. The $7,700 winners' purse boosted her bankroll to $9,660.

Trainer Jesus Olivas-Valenzuela conditions the 3-year-old filly for owner Jose Antonio De Santiago. A $52,000 TQHA Yearling Sale graduate in 2019, Soverynne was bred in Texas by AQHA Champion breeder Bobby D. Cox.

A half-sister to the Grade 2 winner and multiple stakes sire Capo De Capi, she is out of the Strawfly Special mare A Shot At Glory. This is the immediate family of Arizona-bred AQHA Racing three-time champion and All American Futurity(G1) winner AB What A Runner.

Runner-up, Chocolate Wagon is a lightly races daughter of the Pyc Paint Your Wagon stallion Wagon Runnin Loose. Mark Jasso had the riding call for trainer Alvaro Monteverde. The Arizona 4-year-old home-bred races for owner-breeder Adalberto Hernandez. Twice second in three starts, Chocolate Wagon is out of the Righter mare Dashing Righter. He earned $2,800 for the effort.

In only her second career start, fastest qualifier Our Darling Corona earned $1,400 for third, doubling her earnings mark to $3,800. The Corona Cartel filly got away well under jockey Martin Osuna who was riding for owner Greg Togerson. Jesus Torres-Casas trains the California-bred out of Docs Card by Separatist. Darling Farms and Jaime H. Gomez is the breeder.

Nsm Hollywood Nights, Maximo Rc, Fabulous N Race, Last Tia, Junes Light, Maximus Fastus and Sunbrook Sage competed the field.
