Jess a Sweet Suprize Gets Second 2021 Sprint Series Win at Ajax Downs, Sets New Track Record

AJAX, ONT—JULY 21, 2021—Jess A Sweet Suprize raced to her second straight 2021 "Sprint Series" win on Wednesday when she defeated Carneros by three-quarters in the $15,685(US) QROOI Sprint Series #2 at Ajax Downs.

Under jockey Corp Spataro, Jess A Sweet Suprize went wire-to-wire over the 220 yards, stopping the timer at :11.747 seconds, a 108 speed index into a 24 mph headwind, establishing a new track record. Runner-up Carneros held the previous track record of :11.780 seconds set on August 4, 2019.

Jess A Sweet Supriz, a 5-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Sweet First Down, entered the race off a win in the $16,625(US) QROOI Sprint Series #1 on June 16th.

Owner-trainer Craig Spada conditions the Iowa-bred mare out of multiple stakes winning Spit Curl Jess mare Jess Curl My Prize. Bred by Pattie Marshall and Erin Goings, Jess A Sweet Suprize has compiled a (23) 6-4-1 record and today's $6,338(US) winners' purse brings her lifetime mark to $52,878.

Milena Kwiecien's Carneros earned $3,169 for finishing second. Trainer Jason Pascoe named Ismael Mosqueira to ride the stakes winning Prospect To The Top gelding from the Valiant Hero mare Cakebread And Thou. The Stone Chase Stables LLC Oklahoma-bred has earned $92,944. In 2020 the Carneros won the OROOI Sprint Series #1 Stakes at Ajax.

Ontario-bred Night Fishn was three-quarters back to finish third for owner-breeder Mary Schrama. Dan Giles trains the Sugarman Perry 7-year-old out of Fisher Lines by Fishers Favorite. A multiple stakes winner, Night Fishn picked up $1,585 to bring his earnings mark to $88,356. Ramiro Castillo had the riding call.

Completing the field were Silken Siri, Artic Fame, Chicksdigmymoneybags, Shes. Sizzling, Zoxtobeyou and Country Boy 123. Former Horse-of-the-Year and post-time favorite County Boy 123 lunched at the start under jockey Cassandra Jeschke.
