Im Chasin Wagons Prevails In NDQHRA Quarter Horse Derby

BISMARK, ND—JULY 23, 2021—Im Chasin Wagon defeated There He Is Gone by a neck in the $13,700 NDQHRA Quarter Horse Derby (not black type) Friday evening at the North Dakota Horse Park in Bismark.

Im Chasin Wagons drifted in under jockey Giovany Estrada while completing the 400 yard task in :20.574 seconds, an 89 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind. It was the third career win in 11 starts for the son of Fire Breathing Wagon. The $6,850 winner's share of the purse increased his bankroll to $15,455.

Amanda Haar conditions the brown 3-year-old for owner William Joe Geditz. Third in the Chippewa Downs North Dakota Bred Quarter Horse Derby last month, Im Chasin Wagons was bred by Jesse Geditz from the First Down Dash mare Dimples Dash O Denim.

Runner-up There He Is Gone, under jockey Larren Dulorme, battled the winner all the way to earn $3,151 for second. Perry Cavanaugh trains the multiple stakes winning son of Ima Ramblin On for owner Steve Leonard. Randal Schwartz bred the $37,692 earner from the Major Rime mare Nd Bunny Jet.

Another neck back in the blanket-finish, Jess A Wild Time earned $1,781 for third. Longtime trainer Robert Don Johnson saddled the One Sweet Jess gelding for owner-breeder David L. Wisdom. The stakes-placed 3-year-old is out of Royal Wild Time by Royal Shake Em.

Hasta Be A Moose, Royal Big Deuce, Coronas Tnc Whiskey and Vals First Corona completed the field.
