Gym And Jam Gets First Stakes Win In $100,000 Rainbow Quarter Horse Invitational

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 24, 2021—Gym And Jam, a 3-year-old son of leading second-crop sire Jess Good Candy, got his first career stakes win on Saturday when he defeated Separate Sentence by a nose in the $100,000 Rainbow Quarter Horse Invitational at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.

Ridden by jockey Noe Garcia, Jr., Gym And Jam bumped a foe at the break before getting the nod while completing the 440 yards in :21.752 seconds, an 87 speed index into a 8 mph headwind. It was the third win in 12 career starts for the Oklahoma-bred gelding. The $42,967 winner's purse boosted his bankroll to $73,962.

Runner-up Separate Sentence drifted out late under jockey Francisco Calderon to just miss for owner Martin Ybarra and trainer John Stinebaugh. Bred in California by Steve D. Burns, DVM, Separate Sentence is a son of Separate Interest from the Corona Cartel mare Remember The Cartel. A finalist in the Grade 1 Ruidoso Derby earlier this year, Separate Interest picked up $18,414 to bring his earning to $66,042.

Flash Riley, a Texas homebred son of Tempting Dash racing for Marc Jungers, Michelle Jungers, Cole Jungers and Brad Davies, earned $10,230 for third. Also trained by Marc Jungers, the sorrel gelding was ridden by jockey Lucas Constantin. Out of the Jesse James Jr mare Essencia, Flash Riley has banked $24,170 in nine career starts.

Garda Da Cash was fourth, followed by a dead-heat for fifth between Cyber Monday and Valiantt. Speed Dynasty, You Rock My Hocks and Badntessahabit completed the field. Apollitical Redflash was scratched.
