Docs Dusty Cartel Dominates Grade 2 $203,633 Speedhorse QH Futurity Final

TULSA, OK—JULY 24, 2021—In a dominating performance under champion jockey James Flores, fastest qualifier Docs Dusty Cartel returned to Fair Meadows Saturday night to defeat Shy Kisser by 1-¾ lengths in the Grade 2 $203,633 Speedhorse QH Futurity.

The son of multiple stakes sire Coronado Cartel completed the 350 yard task in :17.749 seconds, equaling a 94 speed index into a 6 mph headwind. It was the fourth consecutive win for the bay colt.

Trainer Stacey Capps saddled Docs Dusty Cartel to his second stakes win of the year for owner-breeder Dusty Rose Ranch LLC. Out of the Okey Dokey Dale mare, Docs Dusty Dale, Docs Dusty Cartel won the FL Lady Bug Stakes (RG3) at Remington Park on May 22nd. He has compiled a (5) 4-0-0 record and the $77,797 Speedhorse winners' purse doubled his earnings to $141,595.

Shy Kisser got her fourth black-type placing with a second-place finish in the Speedhorse for owner Cuadra Chihuahua, LLC. The Oscar Nunez trainee, by leading third-crop sire Kiss My Hocks, is winless in six starts this year, but has finished third in the Oklahoma Futurity(G2), Laico Bird Stakes(G3) and FL Lady Bug Stakes(G3) at Remington Park last Spring.

Gonzalo Gutierrez had the riding call aboard the Oklahoma-bred out of Shyann La Jolla by Streakin La Jolla. Bred by Paul Toderum, Shy Kisser sold for $19,000 at the Heritage Place Yearling Sale in 2020. The $34,802 Speedhorse payday pushed her earnings total to $106,004.

Abelardo H. Flores, Jr.'s Olivia de Capo was a neck back to earn $22,519 for third. Trainer Eddie D. Willis named Justine Klaiber to ride the Capo de Capi filly out of Zooming For First by Shazoom. Bred in Oklahoma by Abel Flores, Oliva de Capo was also third in the Heritage Place Juvenile on May 29th. She earned $48,797.

Jt Business Man, Valerity, El Rubio Corona, Jc Wagon and Chuggin Corona completed the field. Definitely A Hero and Rl Drifter were both scratched.
