Perrys Double Down Scores Grade 2 Mr Jet Moore Handicap Win

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 25, 2021—Grade 1 winner Perrys Double Down bounced off a fifth place effort in the Grade 1 Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational Championship in his last start to score a one-length win over Powerful Favorite in the Grade 2 $40,000 Mr Jet Moore Handicap Sunday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

Under jockey Francisco Calderon, Perrys Double Down got a quick lead then cleared the field while completing the 400 yards in :19.336 seconds, a 105 speed index on the sloppy (sealed) racing surface. It was only the second start for the gelding since winning the Grade 1 $393,210 Texas Classic Derby at Lone Star Park on November 28, 2020.

Trainer John. Stinebaugh conditions the son of leading sire Mr Jess Perry for owner Stinebaugh Equine Enterprises, LLC. Bred in Texas by Bob and Jerry Gaston, from the Fishers Dash mare Double Down Darling, Perrys Double Down has compiled a (14) 4-2-5 record and used the $24,000 Mr Jet Moore winners' purse to boost his bankroll to $281,840.

Perrys Double Down, a $45,000 Heritage Place Yearling Sale graduate in 2018, paid $8.20, $2.40 and $2.10.

In just his second-start outside of California, multiple Grade 1 winner Powerful Favorite earned $8,400 for second. Trainer Christopher O'Dell named Eduardo Nicasio to ride the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel for owner Rosenthal Ranch LLC.

James Markum and Steve Burns bred the 5-year-old gelding in California from the Corona Cartel mare Remember Me Rose. Powerful Effort has won 15 of 26 starts and earned $980,917.

Grade 1-placed Mac Lady M finished 2-½ lengths back to earn $4,400 for third. Fractious in the gate prior to the start under jockey Juan Pulido, First Lady M is owned by Jorge Magallanes and trained by Santos Carrizales, Jr.

Second in the Grade 1 Junos Request Stakes at Remington Park in her last start, the daughter of Favorite Cartel has earned $88,326. Anna MacPherson bred the 4-year-old filly in California from the A Regal Choice mare Annas Babe.

Elmer and Hs Paul Walker completed the field. Cers Final Try, Prime Cartel and Regalo Coronados completed the field.
