Countryfried Chicken Set Top Mark In Ontario Bred Derby Trials

AJAX, ONT—JULY 28, 2021—Countryfried Chicken, under jockey Helen Vanek, raced to his second win of the season on Wednesday when he posted the top qualifying time for the Ontario Bred Derby at Ajax Downs.

The Country Chicks Man gelding raced over the 300 yards in :15.384 seconds, equaling a 95 speed index with a 13 mph tailwind, establishing the fastest time from two trial races contested today for Ontario-Bred 3-year-old Quarter Horses.

Trainer Jason Pascoe saddled the winner for owner-breeder Milena Kwiecien. Out of the FDD Dynasty mare La Wanda, Countryfried Chicken has compiled a (14) 3-4-2 record and earned $38,078. The bay gelding was second in the Ontario Bred Futurity at Ajax Downs last year.

Last year's Ontario Bred Futurity winner Twixt Of Fate finished a neck off fastest qualifier Countryfried Chicken to get the second fastest time of :15.415 seconds, a 94 speed index.

Cory Spataro had the riding call aboard the stakes winning son of Streakin Six Cartel for owner Richard Wincikaby and trainer Michelle Woodley. Bred by Gary McNichol, from the Eyesa Special mare Eyesa Quick, Twixt Of Fate has earned $30,584 from five career starts.

Had To Be Relentless, a son of a leading third-crop sire Hes Relentless, won the opening trial for owner-breeders Carol and Jaime Robertson to get the third fastest time of :15.508 seconds, a 91 speed index. Bryn Robertson conditions the multiple-stakes-placed gelding out of Had To Fandango by Hadtobenuts. He has earned $45,823 with three wins in eight career starts.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to Ajax Downs on Wednesday, August 11th to vie for the winner's share of a $30,000-added purse.
