Love the Way You Fly Soars Home in $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes at Delta

VINTON, LA—JULY 31, 2021—Living up to his name and the name of the stake, Love the Way You Fly flew home to win the $50,000 Flying Breed Stakes at Delta Downs on Saturday evening.

Love the Way You Fly ($22.40) and Juan Garcia, Jr cleared the field by a half-length and covered 220 yards in 11.640 to earn a 103 speed index.

Love the Way You Fly is trained by Trey Ellis for owner Todd Matte. He was bred by Copper Spring Ranch LLC, by Fury of the Wind and out of Lovethewayyoulie, by Tempting Dash. As a stakes winner and multiple stakes placed earner of $177,761, Love the Way You Fly appears to have inherited speed from his dam, the 2014 winner of the Heritage Place Futurity (G1).

Love the Way You Fly is five for 17 lifetime. He won the LQHBA Louisiana Million Invitational at Evangeline and qualified to the Laddie Futurity (RG2) as a 2-year-old. As a 3-year-old, he was second in the LQHBA Breeders Derby (RG3) and qualified to the Delta Downs Louisiana Bred Derby (RG3).

Brileys Prize won the photo for second place under David Alvarez. The Ajs Fast Dash gelding was bred by Arnold Trahan, out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Ms Wandas Prize. He is trained by Golberto Rosales and owned by R C Stables LLC.

Brileys Prize is an accomplished 4-year-old gelding with five wins in 21 starts and $151,088 in earnings. He was third in the LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) at the Fair Grounds in 2019 and returned to compete in the Louisiana Champions Day QH Derby (RG3) in December.

Third place finisher Jrs Coronas Toast was ridden by Juan Garcia for trainer Paul Rigdon. Rigdon also co-owns with Gyth Rigdon, Gerardo Gonzalez and Juan Luis Fernandez. The 4-year-old gelding was bred by Julien Stevens III, by Coronas Leaving You and out of Egos Toast to Dash, by Toast to Dash.

Jrs Coronas Dash has finished in the money in several stakes and qualified to the LQHBA Breeders Derby (RG3) at Evangeline late last year.

Completing the field were Barnett Cartel, Bye Bye Agouti, Jess U R Blue, Sharks Jess Jumpin, Quicksilver B and Streak N for Fun. Painted by Perry was scratched.
