RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—JULY 31, 2021—Coming off an troubled eighth place effort in the Grade 1 Leo Stakes at Remington Park in his last start, multiple graded winner No Mires A La Luna rolled to a half-length win over Marcus Medallion in the $40,000 Zia Stakes(RG2) Saturday afternoon at Ruidoso Downs.

Ridden by jockey Lucas Constantin, No Mires A La Luna completed the 400 yards in :19.563 seconds, equaling a 98 speed index. It was the fifth career win for the 5-year-old son of champion sire First Moonflash.

Trainer Marc Jungers saddled the bay gelding for owner-breeder Byron R. Woodard. Bred from the Genuine Strawfly mare Don’t Looke Ethel, No Mires A La Luna has compiled a (25) 5-5-2 record and today's Zia winner's purse valued at $24,000 pushed his earnings total to $484,065.

Last season he won the New Mexico Classic Cup Championship Stakes at Zia Park and was second in the Zia Handicap(RG2) at Ruidoso. As a 2-year-old No Mires A La Luna was third in the Grade 1 All American Futurity.

Runner-up Marcus Medallion, a graded winning son of multiple stakes sire Jesse James Jr, earned $8,000 for second. Owned-and-trained by Jamie Aldavaz, Sr., Marcus Medallion was ridden by jockey Adrian Ramos. Carl Jason Bailey bred the 8-year-old gelding from the Mr Houston mare Houstons Medallion. He has earned $337,403.

Sebastian Gonzales' Effortless Candy Cat finished ahead back to pick up $4,000 for third. James J. Gonzales III trains the 4-year-old Tf Feathered Effort gelding out of Rime Has A Chick by Major Rime. Cynthia Dick bred the gray gelding who was ridden by Benito Baca. Effortless Candy Cat has earned $58,501.

Flashing Moolah, Colby James, Amandas Flashy, Perrys Regard, Flash The Corona, Jess A Satin Flash and Freedom Flash completed the field.
