Kiss Thru Fire, You Can Run Score Undercard Stakes Wins On California Breeders Weekend at Los Al

LOS ALAMITOS, CA—JULY 31, 2021— Kiss Thru Fire and You Can Run were winners on Saturday in the California Breeders Matron Stakes and the California Breeders Sprint Stakes as part of the undercard stakes contested on the first of two nights of the California Breeders Champions Weekend at Los Alamitos.

California Breeders Matron Stakes

Making her first start since returning to the West Coast, Kiss Thru Fire defeated Fayvorite Chick by half-a-length in the $40,000 California Breeders Matron Stakes(RG3) on Saturday night. It was the eighth win for the multiple graded winning daughter of Walk Thru Fire.

Under jockey Raul Valenzuela, Kiss Thru Fire completed the 400 yards in :19.924 seconds, to pick up the winners' purse valued at $22,000.

Juan Aleman trains the 4-year-old for owner-breeder Gentry Farms. Bred in Kentucky, from the Mr Jess Perry mare Fredaville, Kiss Thru Fire won the Denim N Diamonds Handicap(G3) in her last start at Los Alamitos on February 20th. The sorrel filly started twice this Spring at Remington Park with her best finish a fourth-place effort in the Grade 1 Junos Request Stakes.

Kiss Thru Fire has earned $488,150 in 22 career starts.

Multiple graded-placed Fayvorite Chick earned $9,000 for second. Trainer Matthew Fales conditions the 4-year-old Favorite Cartel filly for owner-breeder Marth Wells. Out of the Chicks Beduino mare Chicks Tell, Fayvorite Chick has earned $67,333. Ruben Lozano was up.

Max My Bullets, a 4-year-old daughter of multiple stakes sire Corona Czech, was 1-¼ back to earn $5,000 for finishing third. Racing for owner-breeder EG High Desert Farms, the chestnut filly is trained by Ricardo Guillen and was ridden by Alberto Zepeda. Out of the Mr Jess Perry mare Gimme Back Mybullets, Max My Bullets has earned $44,837.

Javeina Cantina, Fire Sunset, Gray Invader, Cotton Cartel and Royaltys Molly completed the field.

California Breeders' Sprint Stakes

You Can Run defeated Cattail Cove by a neck Saturday night to earn his first black-type win in the $25,000 California Breeders Sprint Stakes at Los Alamitos Race Course.

A California homebred, racing for owner-breeder Steve D. Burns DVM, You Can Run is conditioned by trainer Michael Casselman. Under jockey Jesus Ayala, the son of leading sire Favorite Cartel completed the 350 yards in :17.421 seconds, a 96 speed index. The $13,750 winner's purse boosted his earning total to $108,041. You Can Run is out of the Walk Thru Fire mare You Can Fly.

Link Newcomb's multiple graded-placed Cattail Cove earned $5,625 for second. Juan Alleman trains the Favorite Cartel 4-yaer-old out of Katie Katella by Separatist. Also bred by Burns, Cattail Cove has earned $495,318 in 19 career starts. Raul Valenzuela had the riding call. Cattail Cove was second in the Los Alamitos 2 Million Futurity(G1) at 2.

Pesky made it a Favorite Cartel trifecta when he finished half-a-length back for owner Juniors Quarter Horses, Inc. Jose Flores trains the multiple stakes-placed 4-year-old gelding out of Quirky by Stel Corona. Jockey Cruz Mendez rode the Ed Allred bred earner of $35,950.

Black Fryday, Chicks Fayvorite and Stolen Lives completed the field. Just Be Real was scratched.

The $17,500 Claiming Stakes for $10,000 Sophomores went to the Foose gelding BF Nobodys Foose, who posted an impressive 1-¼ length win or J. Francisco Diaz and trainer Lindolfo Diaz. With Rios Ayala aboard, the Birrell Farms-bred runner improved to three wins from eight starts.

He earned $9,625 for the win and was one of three horses claimed out of this race. A full brother to Governor’s Cup Derby finalist BF Outfoosed, BF Nobodys Foose was claimed by Ricardo Guillen and Rodrigo Maldonado.
