Hortons Real Deal Returns to Win G.P. Maiden Express

GRANDE PRAIRIE, ALB—JULY 31, 2021—Fastest qualifier Hortons Real Deal dominated the $8,056(US) G.P. Maiden Express (not black type) final on Saturday at Evergreen Park with a two-length wire-to-wire win over Yes Im First.

Under jockey Ricardo Moreno Hortons Real Deal completed the 350 yards in :18.395 seconds into a 15 mph crosswind to take home the winners' purse valued at $3,867(US). It was the second win in six starts for the 3-year-old Alberta-bred son of Hortons Specialissue.

Trainer William Leech conditions the homebred for owner-breeder Charles G. Stojan. The chestnut colt was a finalist in the Alberta Bred Futurity last year and has earned $11,271.

Yes Im First, a daughter of champion sire First Moonflash, picked up $1,651(US) for her second-place effort. Jose Rocha had the riding call for trainer Laurie Ferguson. Ralph E. Danard owns the gray filly out of Brt Yes I Can by Conner Can. Mike Abraham is the breeder. Yes Im First has earned $5,598 is four starts this season.

Northforkhigh, a 3-year-old daughter of Streakinisanattitude, finished a half-length back to earn $805(US) for third. Buckey Stockwell trains the chestnut filly for owner-breeder Glenn K. Willis. Out of the King's Nest (TB) mare Highnest (TB), Northforkhigh was placed in four of 10 career starts and earned $9,449. Martin Ortiz was the irons.

Shamoura, Favorite Nickers, Bound Too Be First, Ulnvme To and Timbers Express completed the field.
