Classy Class Extends Win Streak Against Quarter Horses To Four After Turf Paradise 870 Championship

PHOENIX, AZ—JANUARY 5, 2022—Classy Class, a Grade 3 winning Thoroughbred son of Discreetly Mine, dominated the $30,000 Turf Paradise 870 Championship Wednesday afternoon with a three-length win over Capital Expense (TB). Quarter Horse Yanque finished half-a-length back for third.

Under jockey Isaias Enriquez, Classy Class raced up close around the turn before making a good rail bid to edge clear of the field late. He completed the 870 yards in :44.011 seconds, bettering All About Larry's (QH) track record of :44.404 seconds set December 30, 2011. The time was good for a 112 speed index.

Trainer Justin Evans saddled the bay gelding to his fourth consecutive win against Quarter Horses and his 18th overall career win. Classy Class races for Evans and Paul Miller. The $18,228 Championship winners' purse boosted his Quarter Horse bankroll to $52,898. A graded stakes winner, Classy Class has also banked $643,117 against Thoroughbreds.

E. Paul Robsham Stable LLC bred Classy Class in Kentucky from the Saarland mare Collegiate. Classy Class was a $250,000 Ocala Breeders 2-Year-Old In-Training Sale graduate in 2014.

Michael Loynes Capital Expense (TB) earned $5,880 for second. Trainer Robert Baze named jockey Alex Cruz to the ride the 9-year-old Scots Pine (TB) gelding out of Miss Current Sea by Petersburg. L D'Rado Thoroughbreds bred the gray gelding in British Columbia.

Yanque, a Los Alamitos Race Course stakes winning son of leading sire Favorite Cartel, picked up $2,940 for third. Ralph Fales saddled the California homebred for owner-breeder Martha Wells. Michael Ybarra rode the brown gelding out of Red Hawk Chick by Hawkinson. He has earned $167,901.

Highwire Dance, You Buy I Fly V, J Boy A and Squared Straight (TB) completed the field.
