Graded Stakes Winner Put Me N Coach Fastest In Delta Downs LA-Bred Derby Trials Thursday

Graded Stakes Winner Put Me N Coach Fastest In Delta Downs LA-Bred Derby Trials Thursday

VINTON, LA–JUNE 23, 2022 Graded stakes winner Put Me N Coach got his first win of the season Thursday night while posting the fastest qualifying time for the restricted Grade 3 Delta Downs Louisiana-Bred Derby at Delta Downs.

The 10 fastest qualifiers will return to the southeastern Louisiana racetrack on closing night, Saturday, July 16th to vie for the winner's share of a $188,160 purse going 400 yards.

Under leading rider David Alvarez, Put Me N Coach broke on top, led by as much one-length then held off Emorylee to win the second trial by a nose. His :19.872 clocking, a 90 speed index with a 5 mph tailwind, was the fastest of the night.

Trainer Ruben Chavez saddled the son of champion Carters Cartel to his fifth career win in 11 starts for owner Lorena Morales. In his last two starts, Put Me In Coach finished second in the Vinton Stakes on May 28 and third in the Open Me A Corona Stakes (RG2) against older horses on April 30.

Shortstop Racing bred the bay gelding from the First Prize Perry mare Allizoom. Put Me N Coach has banked $87,732. Put Me In Coach won the Mardi Gars Futurity (RG2) at 2.

Runner-up in the fastest trial Emorylee was one of two qualifiers for owner Gene Cox. Trainer Juan Cano named jockey Juan Garcia, Jr. to ride the daughter of Freighttrain B. Her :19.922 clocking, an 88 speed index was the second fastest.

The Cox homebred, from the Toast To Dash mare Dashin Bambam, has earned $20,960 in 10 starts.

Cox and Cano also teamed from Garcia to get the fourth fastest qualifier, Louisiana Tequila, a daughter of champion sire The Louisiana Cartel who was second in the first trial.

Trainer Erika Huitron sent out Tf Jess Me to win the opening trial and get the third-fastest clocking of :20.013 seconds into a 5 mph crosswind.  Sam Houston Race Park's leading QH rider Ali Rivera had the riding call aboard the One Sweet Jess gelding for owner Tex Mex Racing.

Tate Farms bred Tf Jess Me from the First Down Jewel mare Miss Mallard Too. A finalist in the Laddie Futurity(RG2) and the Mardi Gras Futurity(RG2), Tf Jess Me has banked $68,686 in nine starts.
