EVANSTON, WY – JUNE 25, 2022 – Perfect Practice gained a big lead early and extended it to win by two lengths in the $30,025 89 and Under Stakes (not black-type) at Wyoming Downs on Saturday afternoon.

The stake was open to 3-year-olds and up who had not earned a speed index of 90 or higher as of January 1, 2022. Three trials on June 11 determined the field for Saturday.

Perfect Practice ($5.20) went off as the post-time favorite and is an 89 and under horse no more: her final time of :19.630 for 400 yards gave her a 103 speed index.

Perfect Practice was the second fastest qualifier and jockey Julian Zavala returned to ride her in the final. Abelardo Gonzalez trains for owner Jason Berry. The 3-year-old daughter of One Famous Eagle was bred in California by Steve Burns, DVM, out of the multiple graded stakes winning mare Little Talks, by Favorite Cartel.

In six starts, Perfect Practice has two wins and $20,062, including the winner’s share of $13,812. She raced in Arizona as a 2-year-old and moved to the Intermountain region this year with a second-place finish in a stake at Pocatello.

Aj You Rock My Heart, with Tyson Lusk aboard, nosed out Five Bar Rockstar for second place. Aj You Rock My Heart is a triple play for Ann Hansen, who bred, owns and trains the 3-year-old gelding. He was bred in Utah by Justaheartofawarrior and out of Shakem Up Trish, by Royal Shake Em.

In his trial, Aj You Rock My Heart finished third as the fifth fastest qualifier. He is still in search of his first career win but is now stakes placed in five starts with $6,645 earned.

Five Bar Rockstar won his trial as the fourth fastest qualifier to the final; Jesus Canales was aboard for owner and trainer Lynn McNeely. Byron Goody bred the 3-year-old gelding in Idaho, by Five Bar Cartel and out of Genre, by Runaway Winner.

Five Bar Rockstar is three for 11 lifetime with $20,422 earned. He won a stake at Pocatello this spring and was third in last year’s Idaho Cup Futurity.

Completing the field were Love Kiss J Lee, Sf Longmier, Jr Crystal Cartel and Coronado Crown.
