Streakin Wes Pushes Streak To 3, Sets Fastest Time For Five Livestock Co /Rod Mills Memorial Derby

JEROME ID–JUNE 4, 2023–Coming off a win in the Gary & Sherilyn Blattner Memorial Derby in his last start May 21, Streakin Wes held off Connors Cartel to set the fastest time in the Five Livestock Co. / Rod Mills Memorial QH Derby trials at the Jerome County Fair today.

The eight fastest qualifiers, from three trial races today, will return to the Jerome County Fair on Sunday, June 18th to vie for the winners share $15,000-est. 350 yard derby purse.

Ridden by jockey Eric Ayala, Streakin Wes completed covered the 350 yards in :17.924 seconds, equaling a 94 speed index into a 10 mph crosswind, securing the fastest time.

Glen T. Jamison conditions the Idaho home-bred for owner Ramiro Saldana. The son of multiple stakes sire Panama Wes has compiled a (11) 3-2-1 record and banked more $16,375. Out of the Streakin Sixes mare Streakin Zestfully, Streakin Wes was a finalist in the Idaho Cup Futurity and Oneida County Futurity last year.

Runner-up Connors Cartel held on to the second fastest clocking of :17.986 seconds, a 92 speed index. Trainer Ramiro Fregoso saddled the Sizzlin Cartel 3-year-old for owner-breeders Neil Harris and Jere Harris.

A finalist in last year's Elko Intermountain Futurity, Connors Cartel has banked $9,072 in nine starts. Oscar Villa had the riding call.
