Champion First-Crop Sire Moonin The Eagle Gets First Stakes Winner

KAPLAN, LA—OCTOBER 24, 2020—AQHA Racing Champion and first-crop sire Moonin The Eagle got his first stakes winner on Saturday when Wrs Moonin Thewagon won the $132,560 Governors Stakes at Indiana Grand.

Under jockey Samuel Mendez, Wrs Moonin Thewagon was a one-length winner over On A New Note for owner-breeders Williams Racing Stables, Inc. Trainer Randy Smith saddled the Kentucky-bred gelding out of Wrs Quick Wagon by Pyc Paint Your Wagon. He earned $72,908 for the victory.

The win could push Moonin The Eagle to the #3 spot on the First-Crop Leading Sires of Money Earners list next week.

From limited starters in his first crop to race, Moonin The Eagle has sired 8 winners, 1 stakes winner, 1 All American Futurity-G1 finalist and earners of more than $318,000 with average earnings per starter in excess of $17,600 each.

His top performers include Wrs Moonin Thewagon (3 wins, $96,496, Governors Stakes), Flash Bac (2 wins, $114,785, finalist All American Futurity-G1), Peves Blue Duck (Winner, $29,669, finalist Valley Junction Futurity-G3, etc.), Sweet Carol Line (2 wins, $15,628, finalist Mystic Lake Northlands Futurity), etc.
