Trainer Trey Wood Fined, Issued Suspension

Trainer Trey Wood Fined, Issued Suspension

EL PASO, TX---JANUARY 30, 2020—Texas-based trainer Trey Wood has been fined $15,000 and suspended 1-½ years by the New Mexico Racing Commission after one of his horses tested positive for Albuterol, a Class 3 Drug for Quarter Horses in New Mexico.

Wood appeared, with his attorney Daniel Marquez, before the Board of Steward on December 8th at Zia Park. The hearing was continued to January 12th at Sunland Park after which the final ruling was issued.

Under the terms of the ruling, the suspension of Woods New Mexico licenses is retroactive to August 9, 2019 and will end on February 9, 2021. The trainer has been under summary suspension since his notification that Gold Heart Eagle V tested positive in the fourth race at Ruidoso Downs, July 27, 2019.

The $15,000 fine must be paid on or before February 14, 2020.

Wood is hereby excluded from all areas of grounds under the jurisdiction of the New Mexico Racing Commission. Additionally, effective upon suspension dates, all horse owned, trainer or under the care of Wood are ineligible to be entered or start in any races in the New Mexico jurisdiction. All transfers and sales of horses trained, owned or in the care of Wood must be done in accordance with the commission rules.

Prior to his summary suspension last August, Woods stable won 59 of 339 starts and earned $2,502,628 in 2019.
