Johnson Extends Streak Of Being First Trainer With Horses On Property At Remington Park

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK—FEBRUARY 3, 2020—The 2020 Remington Park live racing season begins on March 6 and trainer Tammy Johnson is ready. She entered the Remington Park stable area minutes after the gates opened early this morning to once again be the first trainer to arrive with horses for the season.

Johnson brought in 10 athletes at 12:02am on the first day horses set to compete in the American Quarter Horse, Paint and Appaloosa season are allowed on property. This is the fourth consecutive year (2017-2020) that Johnson has been first with horses at Remington Park. The achievement makes her proud and she believes it is important to her operation. "I feel like we start off winning when we have our horses settled early."

Johnson saddled 83 starters during the 2019 season at Remington Park. She was 12th in the standings by wins with 10 victories. Her athletes also posted 10 seconds with six more third-place finishes. The season earnings for Johnson were $323,840 with a 12% win rate while finishing in the money at 31%.

Among those arriving with Johnson early Monday morning was stakes-winner Viva Le Don, a 4-year-old Texas-bred by Rock Solid Jess from the Pyc Paint Your Wagon mare Viva Arriva. Viva Le Don was second last year in the Grade 3, $367,750 Heritage Place Derby at Remington Park, beaten only a neck by Apollitical Pence. Now a 4-year-old, Viva Le Don has earned $244,644 while winning three of 15 career attempts, with three more seconds and five thirds.

The Remington Park racing surface will open for training on Tuesday morning, Feb. 4 as horses are allowed on the track for the first time in this preseason. Daily training hours will normally take place 7-11am (CST).
