Ruidoso Downs Barn Area Opening Delayed

RUIDOSO DOWNS, NM—APRIL 2, 2020—With Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham's announcement Tuesday that the current orders will remain in place through April 30th, May 1st will be the earliest date that horses and horsemen will arrive at Ruidoso Downs Race Track.

All American Ruidoso Downs, LLC, the partnership consisting of Stan Sigman, Johnny Trotter, and Chicho Flores, which operates the track and casino, made this decision based on the Governor's decision to extend the "stay at home" public health order.

"The May 1st restart date requires that horsemen will need to find alternative locations for qualifying works in April. Our goal continues to be to prepare for racing at Ruidoso Downs as scheduled on May 22nd. However, if viral conditions warrant a further delay, we will announce as soon as it is known and will make any race date changes that are warranted for the health, safety, and welfare of all concerned; including the horses," said Jeff True, General Manager. "As we have said all along, the health and safety of our community and our racing industry has to be the top priority."

Ruidoso Downs will look to the State of New Mexico and the Governor to provide further guidance on when the movement of horses and horsemen will be acceptable. The current restrictions and public health order are effective through April 30th. If there is a delay past May 1st, some schedules will be altered in order to complete the entire race meet.
