VINTON, LA—JUNE 10, 2020—2019 AQHA Racing Champion jockey James Flores was involved in a training accident at Delta Downs this morning that has resulted in a hairline fracture of his fibula.

Recently defending his leading jockey title at the 2020 Remington Park Quarter Horse meet, Flores moved his tack to Ruidoso, New Mexico where he was riding full-time since the conclusion of the Remington Park meet in Oklahoma, City.

Flores was in Vinton, Louisiana at Delta Downs working horses and suffered the fibula fracture when a two-year old reared up in the gates during training hours.

"The horse reared up in the gates, and shot me out the back tail gate," said AQHA Racing World Champion jockey James Flores. "My leg got hung up on gate on my way out, and I was taken to the hospital for x-rays. It's just one of those things that happen to you as a jockey, and I don't expect to be out more than 2 to 3 weeks at the most."

Flores mentioned that he will be heading to Oklahoma to meet with Dr. Brian Levinngs for evaluation, and would formulate a plan to get back to riding once it meets doctor approval.

Flores is off to another tremendous start as he is currently sits atop the leaderboard for Quarter Horse jockeys in the nation with 55 wins, and $1,649,890 in earnings.

Thus far in 2020, Flores was victorious in the Oklahoma Futurity(G2), Remington Park Okla. Bred Futurity(RG2), Leo Stakes(G1), and the Debbie Schauf Remington Park Invitational (G1).
