Geldings In Training Top Thursday’s Opening Session For The 44th Annual Heritage Place Winter Mixed

OKLAHOMA CITY, OK–JANUARY 19, 2023–Geldings in-race-training were a hot commodity in Thursday’s opener for the 44th Annual Heritage Place Winter Mixed Sale in Oklahoma City. Three geldings broke the six-figure mark for the day’s top three sellers.

Heritage Place recorded 235 horses sold of the 266 to go under the hammer for gross receipts of $4,635,000 on opening day 2023. The average price of $19,723 was a 4% decrease from 2022 opening day that reached $20,482. The median price today was $13,000. Thirty-one horses failed to meet their reserve, representing an RNA rate of 13%

“We had a great first day for the 2023 Winter Mixed Sale,” Spence Kidney, Heritage Place General Manager, said Thursday following the opening session.  “We had a tremendous crowd on hand, great weather and look forward to the next two days to complete the sale.

Luis Roberto Lozano paid $160,000 for Thursday’s sale-topper, Hip 15 Flashin Fire, a 4-year-old restricted Grade 1 stakes winning son of champion sire First Moonflash. Dunn Ranch, Agent consigned the $321,736 earner out of Episode Of Fire by Walk Thru Fire. This is the family of champion Eye Opening Episode.

Thursday’s second high-seller was Hip 177 Cr Apollitical Joe, a multiple stakes winning son of leading sire Apollitical Jess, who has earned $201,551. Raul Ramirez signed the $130,000 ticket on the 5-year-old gelding consigned by Jason Olmstead, Agent for Dick & Curt Tobin. A half-brother to 5 black-type, the bay gelding is out of the stakes-placed Streakin La Jolla mare LW Evening Lajolla.

Santos Montemayor paid $105,000 for Hip 241 One Slick V, winner of the Rainbow Invitational at Ruidoso Downs. Dunn Ranch, Agent consigned $99,355 the 4-year-old earner by One Valiant Hero from the Panther Mountain mare Silk Mountain. This the family of champion and former Broodmare of the Year Florentine.

Luis Roberto Lozano was the leading buyer on day-1 with four purchases totaling $211,200. MC Horse Sale Track & Supply paid $184,000 for five head and Raul Ramirez had three tickets for $183,00.

Lazy E Ranch, Agent was the leading consignor or agent on day1 with 23 head selling for gross receipts of $559,700. Dunn Ranch, Agent had eight head for $401,000 and Bobby D. Cox sold 16 head for $366,200.

First-crop sire Flying Cowboy 123 was the leading sire of short-yearlings (by average with, two or more sold) with three head averaging $37,667. Ivory James had two short yearlings average $23,500 and Moonin The Eagle sold two for a $12,250 average.

Champion Kvn Corona was the leading covering sire on day 1 (by average with, two or more sold) with three in-foal mares averaging $44,333. Mental Error had two in-foal mares average $25,000 and champion Uncle D sold two in-foal mares for a $14,000 average.

Friday's second session will get underway at 10:00 a.m. (CST) and will feature Hips 321 thru 640.

Breeding's to Kvn Corona, Dulce Sin Tacha, Mr Apollitical Dash, A Revenant, Kiss My Hocks will be sold Friday to benefit the Sam Thompson Foundation.

OQHRA will hold a reception, with live entertainment by Steve Crossley, in the restaurant and club immediately following Friday's session.

Saturday's closing session will get underway promptly at 10:00 a.m. offering Hips 641 thru 960.

A breeding to Mental Error to be auctioned off to benefit the family of Joe Rios.
