Broodmare of the Year and former All-Time Leading Producer of progeny earnings Runaway Wave passed away recently at 29 years old.

PORTLAND, TN–NOVEMBER 21, 2024–Broodmare of the Year, Runaway Wave SI 105, passed away recently at her owner, Dan and Michelle Lucas, farm in Portland, Tennessee. She was 29 years old.

The daughter of leading broodmare sire Runaway Winner was third in the Dash For Cash Derby(G2) and a finalist in the Texas Classic Derby(G1), Dash for Cash Futurity (G2) and  Las Damas Handicap(G2). She was named Texas Champion 3-Year-Old Filly in 1998.

As a broodmare, she was the All-Time Leading Producer for several years by Progeny Earnings for Racing Quarter Horses, with final progeny earnings of $4,349,799. She is currently second on that list.

Runaway Wave produced 46 named foals, 39 to race, 30 winners, 30 ROM,13 black types, 2 champions, and 1 world champion.

Her top performers include three-time champion and multiple stakes sire Ocean Runaway SI 105 ($1,642,498), world champion and multiple stakes sire Wave Carver SI 104 $1,005,946), Ed Burke Million Futurity(G1) winner Wave Her Down SI 95 ($435,415), Southern California Derby(G1) winner Trisk SI 102 ($254,233), stakes winner Aquafina SI 99 ($188,366), stakes winner Little Surfer SI 104 ($102,749), stakes winner The Ocean King SI 104 ($96,830), stakes winner Whip Curl SI 96 ($24,853), Grade 1-placed and multiple stakes sire Sir Runaway Dash SI 97 ($120,706), G2-placed Bring The Bling SI 97 ($67,320), G3-placed Runnin For Corona SI 106 ($59,098), stakes-placed Seasside SI 91 ($38,296), and stakes-placed Runaway Preslee.

Runaway Wave's last foal was born in 2017.
